I'm thinking Tunder has a point. But for more than isolated words, I think Rayman Junior would be a safer bet, since all dialogue is spoken, even the confirmation screens for quitting. Although maybe I'm over thinking.

I'm thinking it's the intro for Rayman 1 where the Magician tells the player about the current situation.

Well, if I remember correctly, André does it to stop Rayman from reaching the Leptys, though it might have been because of the machine.

Well, it's because André wanted to destroy Rayman at any cost after he destroyed the Horrible Machine. Seemingly to stop him reaching the Leptys.

My other obvious assumption is that they are there to help Rayman get to the end since at that time he doesn't have the super-helicopter. Hmm...

Well, André didn't do it himself, he ordered the Hoodlums to do it. He did it out of desperation when Rayman overloaded the Horrible Machine.
