I wasn't remembering this campaign anymore but I decided to have a quick look to my account and by my surprise I had 5,00€ to claim! I ended up getting the R1 GBC game for the 3DS. Ah, no annoying passwords to note!

Why are they called "Amiibo"? They should have just called them trophies, that way when you link them up to Smash Bros. (basically all anyones using them for) it would be more related to the game like the trophies are actually coming alive as they do in the game. If you want to include games other than SSB4, they could just be called statues or something.

Also, why "Amiibo"? It has the word "Mii" in, a mix of "Wii" and "Me", but what about the "A" and "bo"? Some people say it's to sound like "Amigo" but they could have just called it "Amiigo". Some people say it's a mix of "Mii" and "bo", "bo" supposedly being slang for friend in Japanese but this might not even be true...

Just call the damn things trophies, Nintendo!

You're looking way into it, Ambi. Personally, Amiibo sounds more catchy and distinct.

Amigo is not Japanese word for friend, it is Spanish. Dunno why Nintendo choosed it to be honest, maybe they liked how it sounds.

Never said it has to be named in Japanese, I just said I am surprised they used Spanish word.

Rayman Origins online would be freaking awesome and if it works for NSMB Wii, it should for Origins too. I mean they are similar in terms of CO-OP a lot.

Yep, yep. I really want Online Co-Op for platformers like the Rayman UbiArt games and the New Super Mario Bros. games. It could have widen the audience more if there was so.

@OCG I would also like to add that "Amigo" is also the portuguese word (for a male individual) for "friend", not exclusively spanish.

Out of curiosity, which language is older? Portuguese or Spanish? I might be very wrong on this one but it seems that they have many words in common.

Perhaps Portuguese and Spanish having some words in common can be compared to how many slavic languages have same words as well. Like it is still very much different language but some things can be understood right?

Indeedy doo. They're about as closesly related as Ukrainian and Russian - about, because it's not clear if they both came from some hypothetical, moment-in-time "Proto-West-Iberian" or if they derived from related but separate dialects.

Haruka, I'm not sure how that video suggests Portuguese is older...? I'm not necessarily doubting you, you would know better than me, but modern Castillian also arose and has written records from the early 15th century like modern Portuguese. My understanding was that they were roughly contemporaneous from the start. Do correct me if that's wrong.

I think the difference is minimum due to our history with the correspondent Spain but we emerged a little earlier than the Spanish as far as I know.

By the way, the speech over there is in the Portuguese of Brazil, not from Portugal. If you want to listen to the real phonem of my country, here's an example:
