In Rayman 2 you can swim, but will run out of air after some time. In Rayman 3 you can only swim in Land of the Livid Dead. Here you have unlimited air and can only move in 2D. Rayman then uses his helicopter to move forward. In Origins and Legends you can swim freely with unlimited air.
