Tumblr is a social media platform, Edge.

< Is trying to locate a specific type of RAM for an audio card < has. The one seller that LGR used apparently has a faulty store or eBay just hides everything because of a vacation mode.

< is not saying don't use the internet at all, it's not black and white like that. < just doesn't feel it's good to solely rely on the internet. Sure < does use it a lot, we all do even for banking apps at this point etc. < thinks there's still a time where one needs to be able to step into reality and interact with people around in the environment. < thinks that it might be quite convenient, we lose our human element at some point when we get way too involved. < often sees people walking down the road looking at their phones (not looking where they are going), and < thinks it's kind of sad that everyone is this addicted to the internet these days. < grew up before it took over, and < still appreciates some of the simpler things.

< also knows that websites can experience issues, as can one's internet connection. People have to be able to rely on other things in these cases, instead of sitting there pressing F5 screaming "COME ON, WORK!!!".

Simply reading a book for example is one that doesn't even involve interacting with others, though it also keeps one focusing on the task. It's far too easy to just open Discord instead of focusing on what you're trying to read.Sometimes a little break here and there from technology can do us good.

EDIT: < still thinks school is one of those times that the internet is really going to distract one from focusing on their work, even if it's during a break.

< isnt like that! < can mulit task, < often has discord open, and chats to friends while doing <'s online schooling.

Plus, <'s math teacher ai generates alllll of her assignments so why would < care if she doesnt care about our math work?

< also finds school to be underwhelming easy. < is in the less advanced classes, but if they put < in normal classes < will fail so < just stays in the less advanced ones and just bores <'s self

< remembers this too! Bebo was blocked in <'s school, but there was one really old computer in the corner of the computer room, and one day when we went in, someone was using Bebo. We were like wtf? Apparently it just worked on this one computer whatever way they set it up, but it was a very awful extremely slow computer that took about 30 seconds to even load a page. :P

< gets why it was blocked though, and < is sure they found out about this eventually and fixed it in time, for a good reason.
In <'s case, there was only one PC in the entire school that had a dial-up connection, so obviously there wasn't any kind of network infrastructure at all, let alone something sophisticated enough to do filtering! Of course, back in those days, even the trendiest websites were lightweight enough to be usable with a 56k connection, unlike now :nostalgic:

PluMGMK wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 6:11 pm Seriously though, < does agree with Master, Steo and Reese. < wonders if the school has books to read if you finish your work early...
< actually thinks this would be a good idea, since one can learn a lot from reading books, minus the distraction from being able to easily divert to social media etc.
Yeah, since < was thinking about primary school, < just remembered that the universal rule back then was "if your work is done, read your library book". < ended up reading all the books < was interested in though, so it became a case of reading the Horrible Sciences over and over by the end, which got quite repetitive :oops2:

^ probably just hasn't come across good books.

If that is the case, < can sympathize. < likes imaginative worlds like Rayman, but a lot of fantasy books are rather boring.

At the same time, a well-written novel is far more enriching than the average piece of fanfic. < understands the attraction of fanfic but to put it bluntly, it's a diet of junk food, no matter how good it tastes.

< is not being all high and mighty because < reads books far less than < would like. < does not judge ^'s lifestyle and recognizes the healing aspect of the internet and indulging in fanfic. But the important thing is to recognize it for what it is.

< honestly doesn’t have a life outside the internet. < barely talks to <‘s family. They spend most of their time arguing anyways. < is just avoidiant of people in general, and prefers to talk over the internet.

< does believe for one's well-being, there should be some form of social interaction ongoing, at least occasionally. Does ^^ just assume nobody wants to talk to ^^? Has ^^ tried talking to others, or does ^^ just not want to?

As for books, < would usually like to read something that < can learn from than a novel. < can see the appeal of novels all the same though.

For context: < has gotten an F in collaboration for the past 3 years. Plus <‘s classmates < hates <‘s guts so < doesn’t get the point. < is gonna do online classes to leave a semester early. < is tired of them.

< feels attacked, books are amazing! < honestly finds fan fiction to be a lot worse, as every time < tries reading some, it never feels the same as the original piece of media. In the end, it's personal preference so it doesn't really matter too much, but < really thinks ^ should try finding a book that looks interesting to them!

< feels the idea behind those books is that you kind of create a picture in your mind while reading them. You just use your imagination to make it more interesting. Otherwise, you're just reading text and not even processing it. < doesn't think that would make sense.

You use your brain all the time while reading, whether it be fiction, or to learn things.
