Plums are not hallucinogenic. It's just that Globox drinks entire barrels of fermented plum juice (equivalent to wine). If you drank a whole barrel of wine, it would have hallucinogenic effects, right?

You would not have hallucinations at all if you drank a small barrel of wine (ca. 100L). If you consumed it in the time Globox did, you would have a blood alcohol content of roughly 20%. In Norway, you can't drive if your BAC is higher than 0.02%, and 0.6% is lethal for most people. So you would not have any hallucinations at all, because there would be no electric activity in your brain. In other words; you would be stone cold dead.

When you lock on to a plum in R3, press the picture-taking button and press the grimace button twice, some information comes up which explicitly states that plums are hallucinogenic.

Of course alcohol can cause hallucinations. The point is that consuming 100L of wine in one chug will kill you, as you will have 40 times the lethal level of alcohol in your blood.
