We did. It failed.
Because no one started with it exept you

No, actually I don't think spiraldoor was here yet then. It was called the RaymanZone FanGame Project. It actually worked, until the leader left.

Want to read a the silly game story? If not: scroll down; if yes: scroll down!
"When Rayman beat Mr. Dark, he and the antitoons run away and hide somewhere. But one antitoon think it was boring to hide so he get out and try to talk with the electoons. But they was scared and run away and the little antitoon was now alone. To find some friends he walk to the Bad Club and they said that the antitoon could join the club if he help them to take over the world. The antitoon become more powerful and soon he was the leader of the group..."
If you have a better idea or want to change something, just tell me! I have no idea what creatures it should be in the Bad Club or how the antitoons get more power.

Maybe Rayman's old enemies and unused toons should be in Bad Club. And the antitoon maybe read a dark magic book to learn powerful spells...

That's further than many projects get.
What language are you programming in? I could help if you need some.

Visual C# and I use (more or less) plain OpenGL for the graphics.

So I could probably work on it on Mono-Develop if I did help. I run linux - I have Windows XP installed, but only use it for those few games that absolutely require it. My Windows programming tools are pretty old - haven't used an MS Dev tool in many years.
At least you're not doing it in something like Visual Basic.

Yes, you can use Mono. I use a C# wrapper for OpenGL called OpenTK

But I need the old styled sprites, not the GBA one.
I also want own-drawn sprites in toony-style. When I am done with the basic stuff I should learn to draw. It would be different types of enemies and I need ideas!

http://www.sendspace.com/file/cmvgtg A special pack of Rayman 3 and Rayman Raving Rabbids sprites. Might be useful, but might not since you are making an R1-based game.

Yes, I can mix up Rayman 1 images with Rayman 2 2D BETA images. That should be nice!
It would be nice to have several playable characters and I have ideas for some of them:
Globox: He should find Ly and get a silver lum and then try to save Rayman that have been captured by the Robot-pirates.
Ly: She should find the power to make silver lums.
Murphy: I have no idea what he should do, I only want to play as him.
Carmen or Sssam the snake: They should... Swim somewhere.
Clark: It should be awesome to play as him!

A elek... Never mind..

Usually these "fan projects" never work unless it is composed of one working individual who can compile and code all of the graphics efficiently.
I myself was making a rayman 1 recreation (using the actual mapper tiles), but, Rayman 1 had an engine that was quite well programmed, from the collisions to gravity. Aside from making nice recreated worlds, reprogramming the enemies &c. would be quite monotonous. Although it would be nice to have a windows-based Rayman 1 with more features and expandibility.
Look what happened to the "Rayman M2" project:

That really bring me down...

That was the first thing that inspired me to pick up my own project. Back then, I played R3, loved it, and wanted to make something like it.

I will do a 3D game when I am done with this!

It begins with 2D and then Betilla or someone gives you ability to move in 3D worlds!

It will explain how the Robot-Pirates capture Rayman and his friends and how Rayman loose his powers. Maybe I merge my 3D game with this game, I am not sure..

yeah! and tony blair could be the arch enemy and rayman makes an appearence wearing an opera mask and shouts phrases from the phantom of the opera! and there could be a huge massive robot hitler that shoots mini-serzas at you! and you could team up with jesus! man that would be so awesome.
