Rayman Pirate-Community

Well, I'm not sure. Since I couldn't find a source for the name "Barrel Pirate", the only one that we know for sure is official is the French name "tonneau à pattes", which translates to "barril con patas" (note the similarity with "obús con patas").

It could be that there is an actual source for the name "Barrel Pirate", and I just haven't been able to find it. In this case, I would appreciate if someone can point me to it!

Or it could just be that it's a fan-made term that got so widely used no one every thought of questioning its authenticity. Which would be slightly problematic, since RayWiki is such a reference for all things Rayman that it has been known to create feedback loops.

So, in the absence of any additional information, I would suggest "barril con patas" as a main name, and maybe mention "Pirata Barril" as an alternative name (e.g. "Los barriles con patas, también conocidos como Piratas Barril, son [...]").

Great, so meanwhile their page can be named "Barril con patas", btw, since the translation of "gorilla" to spanish is "gorila", should the page be named "Pirata Gorila", instead of "Pirata Gorilla"?

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I managed to find a video from Haruka Tavares that shows a dialogue with the spanish name for the Robot Dinosaur, however I still haven't found a video of someone playing Rayman Revolution in spanish (in order to know what is the official translation for "Boss Biditank").

Yeah, I too had trouble finding Spanish playthroughs for Rayman games when working on the wiki.

Another option is the game files. PluM was able to get me the Italian names of Rayman 2 levels for example, and I'm sure the same thing is doable for the dialogues in Revolution.

And of course, there's always emulation, but playing the whole game is rather time-consuming when you're just looking for a couple names.

I have a completed save that I can just set to Spanish, but I don't think you can replay boss fights. The original game allowed it.

This might do the trick for the Robot Dinosaur, but probably not for the Biditank.

Anyway, extracting the dialogue files is probably our best option, because this way we would obtain the names in all languages at the same time.

The dialogue is in the GAME.BF file. I can see it with a hex editor, but it would need to be looked through. Pirate Factory is "Fabbrica Pirata", and it also says "El Biditank está blindado!" which basically means "The Biditank is armoured!".

Thanks a lot for your help! So, it seems that the word "Biditank" stayed the same in the spanish version, the same is true for Ninjaws which stayed the same in different languages. What I don't know is how the page should be named, "Biditank" or "Jefe Biditank"?

Just one thing though, "Fabbrica Pirata" is Italian. The Spanish equivalent would be "Fábrica Pirata".

As for Biditank, what to call him will depend on the text that shows when he appears on screen, but the page title should probably just be Biditank anyway.

My bad, I just found "La Fábrica Pirata" in the dialogue, so that must be the name, as it's literally "The Pirate Factory".

Btw, if a character has different names depending on the version of the game, which name should be used to create the page of that character? For example, the spanish name for Umber in the N64 version is "Umbro", but in the PS1 version Rayman calls him "Coloso".

Well, his name is different in the PS1 version in all languages. Actually, more correctly, he is not named at all in the PS1 version, just referred to as a colossus.

By convention, we use the oldest name as page title, therefore it should be "Umbro" as the Nintendo 64 version predates the PlayStation port.

Of course, the other name is also to be mentioned, and in the context of the PlayStation version (e.g. the Ninjaws article), you can use the following syntax: "[[Umbro|Coloso]]".

I'm curious about the different Teensies' tribes, so I was wondering , does anyone know if the tribes (from Rayman 3) have Spanish translations? And if they haven't... do you think we should use the english or french names?

I do remember the Teensies having in-game descriptions (when you use Freeze mode and press V), however my memory could be failing me.

EDIT: the old Rayman 3 website had descriptions of the Teensie tribes (according to the wiki and this post), I wonder if a spanish version of that text still exists.

I know those names were on the RaymanZone website, but only in French and English. As for the official Rayman 3 website, I don't know if there was a Spanish version of it.

But maybe there are other sources we're not thinking of?

Yeah, I was asking because of that, I tried to find if there was a spanish version of that text since they didn't translate RaymanZone until the Rabbids came, I think. But maybe there was other sources as Hunchman said, I don't remember right now if the tribes were named on in-game descriptions, which would be nice.

EDIT: Apparently, yes, there was a spanish version of Rayman 3 website, the url is: http://www.rayman3.com/esp/, but unfortunately there isn't anything saved of it on the Wayback machine site.
