In the program you just get to select an expansion, but they require extra chips when it comes to the hardware itself, which are usually built into the games that use them.

That's right, it's true that a bunch of cartridges back in the days came with various additions.

Yeah it's interesting, but only certain carts used them. These expansions with VRC in them were Konami ones.

Cool to see that this thread got revived again a bit. Also Steo great job on these ! I like choose of VRC7 for Hoodoo Theme, it fits well.

Also i work on another remix after long time of not making any remixes (i was just composing this whole time lol). So i want to say that i work on Mr.Skops battle theme on Megadrive, and this time on real emulated soundchip, in Deflemask.

EDIT: Mispelled "Steo" with "Step"

Yes, there are plenty of expansion sound chips that were built in within certain cartridges on NES. Steo used for Hoodoo remix expansion called VRC7, which was made by Konami and used in only two games, Lagrange Point and Tiny Toon Adventures 2.

What is interesting about this specific chip is that it's FM synthesis based, which standard NES music isn't, so it sounds similiar to the likes of Sega Genesis. VRC7 has 6 channels, two operators (unlike like Genesis, which has four operators), and 15 instruments presets implemented by Konami, and one custom instrument patch.

I remember this kept happening to myself and Jonster, but then I usually don't have to type my own name that often. The pun was that autocorrect walks (steps) all over my name. :P
