I like the backstory that involves the first bad dream and Jano as well, I just feel that Rayman deserves a little more backstory than that, because for me, Rayman 1 had me thinking "what an interesting character, I wonder if there's more." Then Rayman 2 left me thinking "Wow, the Rayman universe is a lot more epic than I thought, Rayman's "lum knowledge" gives his universe a very deep feeling." Then Rayman 3 felt like a great follow up, with another epic, magical and mysterious Rayman adventure, which led me to await Rayman 4 for something even more amazing. Rayman Origins (4, I guess) did take me by surprise, but it didn't disappoint; while lacking in the storytelling department, it had some very interesting and exciting plot twists and gameplay that was hellafun. Unfortunately, through their most scattered and weak storytelling game to date, I don't know why they saw that as an opportunity to throw away all the epic mystery Rayman 2 left you with and explain it as "the nymphs made him but were too lazy to give him limbs." I have no problem with the nymphs creating Rayman, but I think they should have taken proper time to go into some more detail about it and do Rayman 2 some justice. Honestly, while utterly entranced the first time I saw the Rayman Origins trailer and read the description of how Rayman came to be, I was a little pissed to find out how they made it out to be a little, slapstick comedic explanation.

I honestly dislike the idea of Rayman being the only one of his kind, and I like the idea of Teensie Magician being a different character to the classic Magician. I hope I am not the only one who feels this way.

I really hope not. Making his different appearances into different characters would be some terrible storytelling. I say they should leave him as a Teensy in the next game, but restore as many aspects of the classic design as possible (blonde hair, hidden eyes, magic wand, etc). It would be even better if they tweaked his appearance in Rayman Origins via a patch, but that seems like a long shot.

We seem to be the only two people in that boat.

Still, I don't know what to make of the whole story line that rayman is the only limbless thing. Are see supposed to assume that all the ray-people in 1 never existed?
Origins was meant to be a prequel before they decided it was an inbetweenquel. Maybe it's some weird plot hole they never bothered to consider when making the transition. If we go with the theory that it really is a prequel, maybe the Teensie magician either (and I'm just spouting off conspiracy theories here) the Magician from 1, but shapeshifted into a ray-person, or they really are different beings and the magician from 1 is an apprentice to the Teensie magician after more ray-people were made. It would explain how he got the hat. Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about and trying to make sense of why my favorite character from 1 is now an ugly, grey-haired teensie. Obviously my theories don't take into account the whole backstory that was originally in the script, but then again, it was also removed for some odd reason. Maybe I am on to something.

Maybe the Magician was always a Teensy but he just looked like a Rayperson in Rayman 1 because of the art style. There's a theory somewhere on TV Tropes that suggest Rayman 1 was from Rayman's POV, and in his youth, possibly explaining why everybody who has limbs now didn't have limbs back then.

I should stop thinking about it so hard. Its making me more confused. I'll accept that he's a Teensie, since he's such a minor character and theres really nothing anyone can do about the direction they went, but in my mind he will always be the hammy rayperson magician I grew up reciting the narration with <<<I like this smilie way too much

Well the Magician does have bigger roles in the educational spinoffs.
But those MUST be REJECTED from CANON!

I don't consider the Educational games as canon, sorry Andrew.
As for the limbless thing, I take it as art style.
And that in canon, all limbless characters are limbed unless stated otherwise.

Most of the R2 characters were recreated perfectly, but out of all the R1 characters, the same can only be said of the stone men and the Electoons. Strangely enough, Origins ends up contradicting R1 more than the 3D games did, despite its clear attempts to embrace it.

El Dango you're not alone anymore. I also never felt a connection with R1 characters. Besides rayman is the only one and Magician in Rayman 1 spoils it.

I know only what Michel Ancel has made public, which is that they’re working on a new 3D Rayman platformer which will incorporate elements of the cancelled Rayman 4. Considering the lengths they’ve gone to in order to separate Rayman from the Rabbids, not to mention the unanimous praise they’ve received for doing this, it’s very likely that the Rabbids will be removed from the game and replaced with other enemies. Mister Dark seems as good a candidate for the role of villain as any, especially considering how the ending of Rayman Origins hinted at the appearance of a redesigned Mister Dark with spindly arms and a hat shaped like an inverted triangle.

I think the R1 design is better.

Do you have the source for this? Learning that there is a 3D game in the make is getting me pumped already!

I think that making him a Teensie was ok, considering Rayman was supposed to be more 'unique'. But I hated that he became evil, and looks absolutely nothing like the R1 Magician.

Tbh I don't see why anyone thought he was good in the first place. Remember how sarcastic he was in the intro to R1?

As Plum said above about Magician being sarcastic, I think there was a possibility that he can change his alignment.

Why? I think Magician's behavior in those games suit his personality.

Because if the educational games exist, so does the possibility of our world existing in the Rayman universe, which I've never been a big fan of.
