Double posts are usually looked down upon due to concerns of spam and organisation. However, I believe what's going on here is of no concern as there's no potential negative intention here, we're just being updated on an ongoing project.

Hi Rémi Gazel! So nice to see you here. My name is Nikolai, and I am from Norway. Even though I am from all the way up there, I still remember your masterpieces from the late 90's. You formed my childhood! :) I really have to thank you for all the great memories you have given me and my childhood with making this wonderful music. Video Game Music is really underrated, but these tunes from this game, everyone loves, even my familiy members says so. :D I am very happy to see you doing this project, even after all this time too. I almost start crying from the memories, when listening to the music on the YouTube-video you put out. I hope to see more! With that said, I have a few questions I hope you can answer:

1. How did you proceed when you made the music back in the 90's?
2. How was your meeting with Ancel back then? What did he think about the music? Did he ever praised you for it?
3. What is your favourite Theme from the game?
4. What have you been doing since the release of Rayman 1?
5. How is the projects status at this current time?
6. Why did you decide to go back to this after all these years? You must have seem the quality in it.
7. Why did you decide to make music for the game "Rayman" in the first place? Why excactly that one?
8. Is it possible that we will ever see you back in the series again?
9. What are your plans for this project? What is your goal with this?
10. Can we get English Subtitles so we know what you are saying in your reherse YouTube-video?

Again, I am a huge fan of your work. It is nostalgic and legendary, and I really hope over anything, that you suceed with this project! :D :D

Hi Nicolai, thank's very much for your message, it makes me happy :) This project exists thanks to all posts like yours...
I'll try to respond to your questions, but, sorry my english is very poor :(

1. How did you proceed when you made the music back in the 90's?
>> I composed the music thinking "orchestra", and playing every instrument with my synths. My computer was an Atari (!). All tracks was composed in MIDI. A few of them was recorded in studio with real musicians, but was not included in the game.

2. How was your meeting with Ancel back then? What did he think about the music? Did he ever praised you for it?
>> I meet Michel... in a fest at his home. You'll find the history on the project site : http://rayman1musics.gazel.net/en/rayma ... beginning/

3. What is your favourite Theme from the game?
>> Hem... perhaps the magician :)

4. What have you been doing since the release of Rayman 1?
>> Lot of live music, and studio with multiple projects, not as well known as Rayman. I also composed for the theatre, singers...
Since 15 years, I also work in photo and video.

5. How is the projects status at this current time?
>> I'm tinking about the best way to continue. My idea at this moment is to organize some live concerts, with my band, plus a classical orchestra. But It requires some money, so I am studying several possibilities...

6. Why did you decide to go back to this after all these years? You must have seem the quality in it.
>> As I said, this project was born after the many messages I receive for years... I feel that many people appreciate rehear these musics played live.

7. Why did you decide to make music for the game "Rayman" in the first place? Why excactly that one?
>> I didn't decided :) I had the opportunity to work on this project, and it interested me.

8. Is it possible that we will ever see you back in the series again?
>> I don't know... but today my wish is to compose for game or movie... so... let's see :)

9. What are your plans for this project? What is your goal with this?
>> First playing re-arranged musics in live with gameplays projections, and other goddies perhaps, and after, why not realize a DVD... I'm very open to all ideas.

10. Can we get English Subtitles so we know what you are saying in your reherse YouTube-video?
>> That's done :) (approximate translation, sorry...). The subtitles begin to 04:06 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JhRkhEynR8)

Well, thanks a lot for replying Rémi! :D Your English is good in my opinion. I do think you will find out some way to succeed! :) When can we excpect to hear a second reherseal? :D I really liked the first one. Was it difficult to make the music work out when playing live? Is there more instruments that will be joining your team? I heard you mentioned in the video you would like some more instruments, and one more piano player. Will you try out some of the other songs you composed for the game, or these songs for now? Also, I can see that you joined this forum in 2009, so you have been thinking about this project for a long time, right? :) One more question that I always have been wondering, did you earn a lot of money from Rayman 1's success? And also, When was last time you talked to Ancel? You have any contact with him anymore? What about this collabaration with Ubisoft you thought of? What is your take on that? Good or bad idea? :)

Making those tunes on Atari + Midi... :D hahaha, very impressive. So different today in 2014. :P

Sorry for posting so many questions Rémi :( I am just so excited to be talking with you, since your work has meant so much for me. :D Also, I am sorry, I saw you were online and decided to post this, but you logged of in the same minute as I posted. I just want you to know that I, and the entire community appreciate it a lot when you come on here, and we hope you can come online whenever you have time and would like to talk to us :) Anyways, glad you appreciated my enthusiasm :D :D

Wow, Rayman 1 was born out of a rap inspired by a party at Ancel's house? How... incredibly fitting, actually, considering the era.

Haha, easy, RaymanPS1 - don't bombard the man with too many questions! ;)

Once again, Mr. Gazel, I'm amazed that this project is becoming reality. Thank you for a world of joy in the music of Rayman 1 and thank you for this project, too - it must be tons of fun going through all your old songs and playing them with real musicians.

I feel very well your enthusiasm indeed :) Thank's again.

Some responses :

When can we excpect to hear a second reherseal?
>> I don't know at this moment. The project took a certain scale, and I have to think seriously about the best way to continue :)

Is there more instruments that will be joining your team?
>> Yes. First, a cello, a violin, a second keyboard, a drummer, and a guitarist.
And I plan to add a classical orchestra, who usually play video game music. I discussed with them a few days ago...

Will you try out some of the other songs you composed for the game, or these songs for now?
>> Yes, the project include 12 musics which I composed for R1.

I can see that you joined this forum in 2009, so you have been thinking about this project for a long time, right?
>> No, I think about this project only since 3 or 4 months, further to the numerous messages I received, and because some of the fans asked me if I intended to play these musics one day in live.

did you earn a lot of money from Rayman 1's success?
>> Hem... I don't remeber :)

And, heu... sorry, My keyboard doesn't work any more :)

Okay. If your keyboard wouldn’t work, then you wouldn’t be able to compose music.

But do you think it will be any problem with copyrights with Ubisoft? They basically own the music still don't they?

Well, I like the idea of a DVD, concerts and the fact that you are planning on playing all the 12 themes you composed. I think this will be good. But you did not compose Picture City, Band Land Music/Allegro Presto right? Sorry, you probably don't know the names and such, but just wondering.

I doubt it, plenty of Rayman tracks have been remade or remixed in the past without issue, I don't see what issue Ubi would have with some more being added on top.

Especially if it's the original creator of said music. Hell, in the end, it might even attract more attention towards Gazel and consequently the game he composed the music for - beneficial for all.
I've come to believe that companies do not have that big tough guy attitude of taking down whatever's breaching their copyright as I previously thought. The copyright's there to protect their property, to safeguard from people claiming it as their own, but it's not there to impose an artistic blockade. I know there's some companies that contradict this notion, but I think the majority of people responsible for enacting copyright legislation actually think of projects like these as fun and interesting rather than another place to dredge out some money just by going after everyone involved.

I say good luck, Mr. Gazel, and may your music sing through the air!
