Yup, that’s really Twitter after all :noel:
The Jonster wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:12 pm I'll be honest, I don't really like the new sprites, they don't look as cartoonish to me as the originals did. And before anyone asks, I'm just voicing my thoughts, not trying to sound racist here...
‘OWMYGAWD!!! YOU DARE TO DISAGREE WITH MAH POINT OF VIEW ON A CHARACTER APPEARING FOR BARELY A MINUTE IN A COLOURFUL GAME MADE FOR CHILDREN!!!!???? HOW RACIST OF YOU!!!1!1!1!’ :grrrrrr: :grrr:
This is what we will have heard if we posted that on Twitter

I never would have thought about it as any form of racism, and since they changed the original sprite colour to blue, there was no intention for anyone to find it racist. I played the game a lot ever since I was a kid, and the last though I would have thought about was the pirates having anything to do with racism.

So is Globox racist too now since he doesn't like glutes? :P

I clicked on the MEGA link, it seems that a decryption key is needed or something, I can't seem to download the patch from there. The Uloz link I was able to download fine though.

Edit: Btw I mean the links on the first page

I had originally downloaded it from mega so I don't know why the decryption key changed.

It didn’t, the link was just incorrectly pasted into the first post.

Here’s a working link – you can replace the one in the first post with it:

Code: Select all

Weird because the link in the first post worked for me the other day. :P

I changed it now, but I don't even know how it ended up like that.

Just noticed this and I'm also having a lot of problems with the game turning mute on random occasions or when switching windows. This is only when playing on my TV though, might just be my laptop being stupid.

I never had that issue myself on Linux, even though I'm using Wine. In a way it would help if I did since I could have it running in a terminal and see the output if something in the game code errors.

I'm surprised there wasn't a Linux export of the game anyway since Game Maker Studio 2.0 can export Linux executables, maybe just not enough demand...

Well you and me, plus 15 other people from the 60000 downloads are the only Linux users it seems.

I don't mean to add to the controversy but, as a black man, the only thing that I find offensive here is that someone saw that enemy and immediately thought of black people. I mean, do we look like that to you? I surely never saw this blue guy as a racial caricature...

But yeah, let's blame the whites like those Twitter fellas, surely being racist to others will end racism towards us. :fou:

No hard feelings for the creator of the game though, I'm sure he meant well when he made that change, and his game is awesome. And there's always the patch anyway.

The fact that anyone even associated the sprite with the racist depiction of a black person proves that most likely they themselves have some issues with black people because what sane person would even try to connect a blue limbless pirate with a black race?

Also, some good news to share. New mod will be provided soon, not gonna spoil what it is but expect it later today 8)

Well, regardless of this controversy, all these mods certainly are a testament to the quality of the game.

Yeah the Linux fanbase is rather small, but I guess that's because there's a lot to learn. A lot of people wouldn't be willing to learn, and most people would simply just be too lazy since you have extra hoops to jump though. I prefer this though, I even went the advanced way of trying LFS, and my next step is to keep a text file of each installed dependency to compare against BLFS with some programming. I'm not very good at programming, but it's something I'll have to learn if I want to make this package manager.

This is true, people would insert politics into just about anything these days...

Like I said though, if kids these days grow up sheltered in a world where everything is censored, they will grow up to be offended by absolutely everything, since they're not seeing the real world for what it is. Racists and the likes still exist, and all that's happening is people are trying to mask it. For example, censoring something in a remake of a game from 1995 that a couple of people somehow see as racist isn't going to bring us world peace. It would be better if some people could just ignore whoever/whatever is bothering them since this is the only logical solution.

That being said, I think I should move on from this too now.

I'd have to disagree on the learning aspect. From what I see, we're at a point where mostly everything is automated for you, especially in the gaming branch thanks to Steam and Lutris. Just hit install and it does that all automatically for you, (if there is an install script ofc). I'd even argue things has gotten even simpler than Windows in the past couple years.
