That was awesome. :P

Blue-belly Rayman, weird ugly Ly, different character icons, different font ( obviously changed to be able to have Japanese text ), teensies with big blue eyes ( at 3:56 in this video ), green Clark ( at 4:00 in this video ), blue spiral doors ( at 4:55 in this video ), different loading screens, and a different title screen ( beginning of this video )
There are also different ( and ugly ) textures for Globox ( at 3:44 in this video ) and the baby globoxes in this video ( at 1:50 ).

I hope he/she uploads videos from the rest of the game, because this was so bad that it's awesome. :P

From what I've been told, some characters had to have the big eyes to make them look cuter, since cutesy big eyed things sell quite well in Japan. It's rare for Western franchises to make it big there, and even if they have been localised, they still flop, so those few individuals that actually have the game are heroes for sharing. This is why a lot of games that were big in the USA, such as Earthworm Jim, may not have been released in Japan. What amazes me though is what franchises have been sold there without significant localisation, hell I was surprised to see Japanese Count Duckula VHS tapes somewhere on the net.

They call Ly "Rai" for some reason, which is odd since they still use the gibberish where Rayman clearly pronounces is as "Lee". But then again the Japanese language has no Ls.

Why's Rayman's t-shirt thing blue? Wasn't it purple?

It's been thought that it was because purple was the colour of mourning in Japan but that might not be the exact reason. It's odd because it was purple in all Japanese versions of Rayman 1, unless someone over there got their knickers in a twist over it.

Purple signifies wealth in Japan, I believe.

That's right. Purple signifies DEATH in Japan, so Rayman's body was made blue and Mr. Dark was made purple (for the Japanese versions).

Another thing to point out is that when a US/EU game comes to Japan, they usually have to have four fingers one thumb, but this doesn't seem to apply for Rayman. The traditional three finger one thumb hand thing in cartoons looks like this symbol that they think is bad, and plus it's a bit more anatomically correct, which is why you often see Sonic and Mario like that. The Japanese version of James Pond 2: Robocod [SNES and MD version] is an example of what I mean about this.

Actually, at the first looks of it i don't think it's that odd. Although the colours of Ly are a bit messed up, it doesn't seem nice to me. And also, her shading is a bit weird.

Well I've never really seen Ly has one of the most attractive video game characters, but her Japanese equivalent seems to take things to a whole new level. Woah. And what's with her horrible pale skin/coat?

That I have no clue, since somehow the stripes are still purple! There's this other pic I have that shows her have a white suit too [sorry about the shitty quality, this is a scan of a print and I lost the original :(]

Why they made these silly changes for I'll never know, since you've got stuff like SpongeBob SquarePants and South Park being dubbed in Japanese and no change has been laid on any of them. I suppose it's different in games though, like Warioware - the developers of that said themselves that a game to be sold in the US and Europe shouldn't be too Japanese, and vice versa.

And yes I am a closet weeaboo go shoot me :B

Interestingly enough, I actually think that in terms of Revolution, Ly's facial texture for the JP version actually looks a little better with the polygon positioning, but to be honest, I never really cared much for the additional polygons thrown in here and there for the models in Revolution compared to something like the N64 or PC version.

It's really hilarious at first, but oddly enough, just because of the width of the lips, for example, it looks a tiny bit more proportionally better.

Wait, Ly looks like a man in the Japanese version, but looks like a woman in the US/PAL version, does that mean.... Ly is a transvestite???!!!!
