Sounds interesting. Could you provide me with a link to read it?
I was talking about the story from the Rayman 2 manual. You’ve probably see it before, but here it is anyway:
Rayman is a unique character of unknown origin.

No wise man or magician can say by what twist of fate or whim of the gods Rayman came to appear at the Glade of Dreams.

All we know of him comes from the fishermen on the Sea of Lums. After a particularly stormy night they found him sleeping peacefully in the shade of a palm tree. Frightened by this strange creature from the sea, they called on the people of the forest, the skies and the waters for help. And the sun had not yet reached the zenith when a host of beings, each one more bizarre than the next, came tumbling over the violet sand dunes. They watched him for a long time. “What kind of a man can he be who has neither legs nor arms?”, they asked one another. “Can he possibly be alive?” wondered one of them when Rayman stretched and yawned loudly.

It didn't take Rayman long to convince the people of the Glade of Dreams of his good intentions. His energy and good humour, his fantastical powers and love of life and nature won over even the most distrustful of creatures. And when he triumphed over the evil Mister Dark, the truth was undeniable: Rayman was the bravest of them all, the ideal hero, the man for whom friendship and laughter are more important than anything else, for whom the greatest victory is measured by the extent of the celebrations that follow it.
Spanex wrote:Now whenever he really fought Jano or not I'm not sure. What we do know now is that the bad guy ended up becoming a guardian of the worst place imaginable.
Jano was spawning hordes of Darktoons, so he was definitely the heart of the problem. Judging by the four main games, Rayman seems inclined to beat the crap out of anyone who disrupts the balance of the world, so it’s fair to conclude that that’s probably how he handled his first enemy too. Whatever Rayman did to Jano, it was enough to convince the Magician that Rayman was the only one who could defeat Mr Dark...

Perhaps his creation remained secret, so most of the inhabitants were unaware of his existence until he was washed up in some incident prior to his battle with Dark.

Perhaps the fight with Jano resulted in Rayman falling into the sea.

How does defeating an enemy result in Rayman falling into the sea? Was he up high on another planet?

Reading the Rayman 2 instruction manual again that was posted above, the way it's written is done so incredibly well, it sets the perfect mood and atmosphere: Lightweight and feelgood, but still dark and mysterious.

I don’t know, didn’t he fall into the sea when he defeated Razorbeard? We have no idea how the confrontation with Jano went down.

Perhaps they had a high-tech spaceship dual, and Rayman collided with Jano, sending them both crashing down into the Glade, Jano being severely injured.

And Jano landed in the Marshes of Awakening, forgot he was evil and decided to guard... wait no

Or perhaps Jano took a few thousand Darktoons (the stuff of nightmares) and wove them into an offshore base (similar to the Electoon bridges) where he could continue to reproduce and orchestrate his invasion of the Glade. Rayman confronted Jano there and defeated him, causing the lair to disintegrate and the two to fall into the sea. Rayman washed up on the shore and was welcomed by the people of the Glade, while Jano washed up and was banished forever to the Cave of Bad Dreams as punishment for his crimes.

Remind me again where was the source of the First Bad Dream?

I don't think there's any lore that states where this battle took place, only that it happened.
Though I'm guessing the battle did something to Janos' memory since he does not seem to recognise Rayman in the second game.

It’s all in the manual.

I don’t remember any dialogue suggesting that they didn’t recognise each other.

Now this here is the true Rayman Origins.

Indeed, Rayman even seems scared or disturbed when he sees Jano for the first time in Rayman 2. By this I mean before he knows the name of the Cave.

Yeah, they don't remembered each other, that means they musn't met themselves before.

Yeah, they don't remembered each other, that means they musn't met themselves before.
???

There was no dialogue that suggested otherwise, and I'm sure that Jano might have been a little more aggressive in his mannerisms if Rayman had beaten him prior.
But that's open to interpretation.
But the fact that he wanted to eat Rayman to death could be contempt, or just general agenda.

Rayman’s horrified reaction doesn’t mean he’s never seen Jano before.

Quite the opposite really.

Not necessarily. As we see after we defeat him in the Cave of Bad Dreams, Jano has a strict code of honour. I doubt he would be bitter over something that happened a long time ago. Maybe he has even seen the error of his ways.

Yes, this is EXACTLY what I've meant, but Rayrobi understood the EXACT opposite.

You're right. So what you tried to mean is that when Rayman got created, it was essencially to fight the Darktoons created by Jano, and after they fought, somehow Rayman fell in the sea and this explaining Rayman 2's manual introduction of the character itself? Sounds plausible to me.

Yes, i may understood the opposite meaning of that.
But anyway i think Rayman could not be scared much in the Marshes if he met Jano before, because then he should know what kinda creature Jano is. But he's scared much, and by this i mean that they must not met themselves before.
