It's like a cross between the Mini Janos in Rayman 2, and the fate of the Epicureans as imagined by Dante Alighieri :paranormal:

"Epicurean Ed" does have a nice ring to it

I expected bigger differences between the two versions.

Nice video though.

So I decided to make a walkthrough for Tonic Trouble, definitely an underrated game from Ubisoft that never got a remaster or sequel, too bad. Didn't sell as much as Rayman 2 did, but deserved something else, it's actually a fun platform game, the level design sometimes is a bit confusing and easy to get lost, but I quite like that game :D

It's great that you were able to play the version with the good intro and the cool loading screens. I think the only level where I got lost was in the Pyramid.

I found this recently, it reminded me that I need to do more Tonic Trouble creepypasta material.

I'm confused, is that real, or a spoof?

Considering the tv static effect and the font used (which is different than the ones I've seen for the game over screens), I think it is fan-made (also, the user that uploaded the video describes himself as a "trashposter and meme creator").

Imagine this triggering as often as the infamous pirate head from Rayman 2.

Well, you could imagine it, that's why I felt the need to ask if it was real! :P

Don’t know if it’s the right topic to discuss the GBC version of this game, but I’ve finally played the secret Ubi Key level of this version and made a showcase of it! :mryellow:
Basically, this extra stage makes you play as Super Ed (with no time limit) and makes you go through a unique area with instakill enemies falling from the sky and a bonus life at the end of it.

Here’s what I discovered:
-While the creatures kill you instantly, you can do the same to them by punching or kicking.
-They only spawn outside of the starting area and of the life’s location.
-You have three attempts in total (like your default number of lives). You’ll be sent back to the game’s intro regardless if you win or if you lose.
-The extra life actually counts as three, as you’ll start the game with six lives in total.
-There’s no HUD in this level and it simply uses the game’s main theme.
-There are some "glitched" visuals under the stage. By moving the camera downwards (which you can do by repeatedly tapping the up and down arrows), you’ll see broken tiles below the whole level. Funnily enough, Super Ed also floats above the water here when walking across some platforms...
-Most interestingly: it appears the creatures change depending on which game the Ubi Key has been sent from (unless this is completely random, but it was consistent in my many tests). Sending the Ubi Key from a second Tonic Trouble will spawn tomato enemies, while sending it from Rayman GBC will replace them with yellowish versions of the Pyramid’s jaw creatures (could be a reference to the Piranhas from Rayman?). Does anyone has more Ubisoft games with the Ubi Key feature to test that out? :?:

Once again, I’ve detailed the whole method in the video’s description as it was quite tedious to do with emulators. :oops2: (Especially when it keeps crashing because of the IR + netplay features :pascontent: )
Guess I should update the wiki page soon like what I did for Ubi Cliff and Rayman GBC! Well, with the confirmed information as I have some doubts about the last thing. :noel:

Here are pictures with some details:

I played Tonic Trouble for the Nintendo Game Boy Color and something strange happened... there was no music and no sounds playing, the graphics appeared weird and missing in some places, and Ed's eyes appeared slightly bloodshot... I thought it was a scary glitch so I turned off the Game Boy...
Then I booted up the game again, and suddenly Super Ed's eyes were hyper realistic and bled at me. :hap: :hap: :hap:

Is the game itself any good? I don't think that's been discussed before.

From what I tried so far, it’s an OK game. It looks nice, sounds nice and has plenty of good ideas, but it appears to be way too short and a lot of things feel poorly designed.
The gameplay is pretty good once you get used to it IMO (I like the fact you can sprint here unlike Rayman GBC), but it’s just annoying how much you have to go in the pause menu to change your abilities later on...

By the way, I’ve just updated the Ubi Key’s wiki page with the confirmed info about all of that.
Speaking of GBC games, I added some tiny details to the Carnivorous Plants’ article as an extra. :mryellow:

I recently had an interest in Tonic Trouble again, I may make some drawings about it and write text posts in my tumblr (if I'm not too lazy).

That Pharmacist guy was the one manipulating Grogh and doing experiments to give all living things a "little transformation", and he was never defeated or captured. If the story had continued he would have been the next villain to find and defeat. If I could wish for a new Tonic Trouble game, it would be Beyond Good and Evil type, where you explore the human world who is recovering from the effects of the Tonic, and try to find where the Pharmacist is hiding and expose him, in this journey Ed would have to fight members of the Underworld and criminals whose abilities were enhanced by the drugs the Pharmacist is making, as well as some of his "creations" that live in underground secret labs.
