As we’re in YouTube topic, thanks to not being verified (100k+ subscribers) they are taking away my ability to pin comments and add links. Why? To keep their “community friendly”

When you say "add links"… You mean in the video? In the description? In comments? I remember back in the day it was impossible to write URLs in comments…

Also man, things sure have changed with YouTube over the years, and now look at their war on AdBlocks. They're only making AdBlocks better from their recent push.
I personally find their war on Adblocks fine, since we do get to see and upload content for free. I think the ads could be worse! Now check out Twitch, with people putting on 6 ads that are not skippable. Now, do I sympathize with Youtube for making it worse for themselves? I don't. I just think fairness is important, but I personally don't care about them as a corporation.

6 ads??? How long are they?

Off topic a bit, but I think this place is far superior to fandom due to it not having a single ad

The content is also superior by far.

Btw, I was checking the settings in X, and for some reason I had "Laura Ingraham" in my interests, I don't know how that happened, I don't think I have viewed any content related to her on that platform (that I can remember).

Hmm I wonder why…

Also I find it quite funny calling it X has become the norm now

Hardly surprising. Everything YouTube does is to make the brand look good and maximise profits, not benefit the community itself.

It's why they ruined collaborative projects such as YouTube Rewind before discontinuing it altogether, why they've removed visible dislikes, why they protect YouTubers who break their own rules providing they bring in enough money etc. YouTube as a site goes against everything it was originally designed to be.

What’s sad is that it’s seemingly impossible for a modern company to be nice. I think it is because a smaller friendly company isn’t going to be able to compete with a bigger league so they must reform and they’ve been going that way for the past 7-10 years

I guess we'll see these changes in the future, but right now I've checked the RayWiki videos and they still have the links in the description box. I wonder how these changes will affect these videos. And not only these videos, but also those from channels which are simply abandoned. Are they gonna delete those videos or will they simply modify the description?

Not sure yet. Maybe they’ll keep the already existing links but block new ones

I don't really see it as the norm, I see almost everyone calling it Twitter still, as will I. :mryellow:

Hey! Long time no see! At least for me! Glad to see you around again buddy!

I'm glad you're on team Still Call it Twitter like I am!

Which reminds me, weren't they part of some game event stream Elon was a part of and folks were chanting bring back Twitter in the background? lol

dr_st wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2023 2:50 pm The absolutely worst thing about it, though, is that it is centralized, just like Facebook and Twitter/X - and managed by one corporate entity. And if that corporate entity decides it does not like you - because your political opinion is considered "too far from the hivemind", or because you were targeted by a hostile group and your account was repeatedly reported as "offensive" - that entity has the ultimate, irrevocable, and undisputable power to ban you across the entire platform.
Those are pretty good points and the reason I tend to avoid contributing too much to such huge, centralized platforms. On Twitter, we've been locked out of our RPC account for many years because of some 2FA shenanigans, and there's just no way to get anyone to help. Something like this could not happen on RPC itself. On Twitter and Reddit, I can imagine the same happening for the reasons you guys mentioned.

If I'm not mistaken, for creators with monetization enabled, it is possible deactivate ads on specific videos, right? While it's true that YouTube is giving creators less and less control over the amount of ads, they could decide not to have them at all, which they obviously don't want as it's a source of income for them. One has to keep in mind that in most cases, the people who make the videos they watch want them to see ads, and that's it's not something that some evil corporation is forcing them to do. I personally have YouTube Premium, which includes YouTube Music and costs just €2 more, and I don't find that amount unreasonable compared to the flurry of subscriptions people seem to have nowadays...

That's strange, because like Dave said, we're able to add links to video descriptions on the RayWiki channel, and I was able to post one in a comment today. I'm pretty sure you should be able to do the same, and you probably just need to verify your phone number, something which is unrelated to that 100,000-subscriber requirement.

I still pretty much hear and see "Twitter" being used as the norm, and many people who also refuse to call it that. Elon Musk's obsession with "X" is just weird with this, and it's clear no one really likes it.

I know Sony removed Twitter integrations from their Playstation platform, Microsoft did that earlier in the year I believe for Xbox. I'm sure Nintendo isn't far behind. More and more people are pulling the plug. It's a shame that the iconic bird is being flushed down the toilet, you know the brand isn't worth what it once was valued at.

I still encourage people to only call it Twitter too. :P

Yeah honestly, I will just keep calling it Twitter, as that's what it has been for over 10 years. X is a stupid name and Elon has a really high IQ, so I have no idea why he thought something so stupid was a good idea. It's probably the same thing with Microsoft thinking half of their latest decisions are good.

I dont really use the platform a lot either way, and I don't generally follow the "norm" when it comes to how I do things either. For example, just because many other people like Captain Laserhawk, doesn't mean I do.

I don't think Elon a high IQ or is very smart. Almost everything he's done or said in the last 10 years has proven he lacks forethought and has less STEM knowledge than a sophomore, it just took the aftermath of him buying Twitter for most people to realise he's not the brilliant genius he tried to convince everyone he was. His biggest talents are probably acting and scamming shareholders, that's about it, he's a successful snake oil salesman.
