Re: TTQ: Season 118
I'm really glad that this round has come to a close, though at the risk of sounding like The Modster or a hypocrite, I have a concern I'd like to share if it's ok.
This quiz took a very long time to complete, around 2 months. There were days, maybe even weeks that went by and no questions were asked, and that I feel is prone to people losing interest in the quiz and not being as attentive (or something like that). This is just my opinion, but I suggest that there should be a rule that quizmasters should ask at least one question every few days (like 1-3 maybe) otherwise you risk the title of quizmaster and therefore your specal rank and I think this rule should apply to the other two quizzes also (General Knowledge and Video Game). If there is such a rule like that already, my apologies.
I know it's not totally Birds' fault the quiz took so long and he dropped, I'm sure he had his own things to take care of and he had the video game quiz to host also so I don't blame him for what happened with this quiz, I understand that people can be genuinely too busy to handle these things. I mean, I'm no better for stalling my last quiz for weeks (and eventually dropped also) simply because I had not prepared (which was not the best course of action obviously).
Basically what I'm saying is that I share other peoples' beliefs that people who choose to be quizmasters should at least be a bit committed to their role instead of just taking it for granted from what I've seen in my own examples.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Thanks guys.
I'm not going to be delaying it to be honest, I have 2 weeks to get ready for it and I'll be utilising those 2 weeks for preparation instead of making up excuses. I want to do a good job with it.
There's this rule also:
I'm not sure about adding a rule to ask a specific amount of questions in a certain span of time, as that could be unfair to people who are genuinely busy for a couple of days during the season. I think that if someone does agree to host the season then they should at least keep their promise, we shouldn't keep handing the quizzes over to mods every time either because they likely have enough to be doing, along with the fact that the quiz being thrown at them mid season with zero preparation.
Nevertheless, Plum and Ambi did an amazing job on the last 2, especially with it being handed over unexpectedly with no preparation involved.

I personally think 2 months is a bit long and I'd prefer to aim for the 1 month target myself, but I'm not too sure what length of time "unreasonably long" is classified as either. I do get that Birds was busy so the quiz getting delayed wasn't really his intention, he just didn't have the time for it and that's why he handed it over to Plum in the end.............................. The time period between the end of the previous season and the start of the new one must be reasonable. In particular, it must not be shorter than two weeks. It also shouldn't be unreasonably long. Please try to state your intended start date in advance.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Well, that rule is about the interregnum, not the length of the quiz itself. I'm not sure about the whole force-ask-question thing. I guess there should at least be a rule not to leave people hanging after a correct response. And likewise don't say you'll ask a question in the morning and ask it next week (or in my case late evening
).
Re: TTQ: Season 118
I often leave them hanging on a correct answer until I ask the next question to avoid double posting, but seeing as that's usually only a few hours to a day, I'm sure that's fine. I guess it makes sense to just think ahead and say "do I really have the time to host this quiz?", before saying "I'll do it".
I didn't know that rule was about the interregnum to be honest, but I still probably wouldn't ask 5 questions every single day and make the quiz extremely short either.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Surely, two months is a bit too long for a season. Maybe next time this happens, let the staff know and we'll figure out a solution with the host.
Re: TTQ: Season 118
I felt like 2 months was a bit long. I'm not really complaining though, just making suggestions for the future. Jonster on the other hand was going nuts. I tried to calm him down, but he was all like "lemme at em!".

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Ah, Scrappy was so cute back then! And then I watched that Scooby-Doo movie.

On a serious note, yes I might have sounded a little much but I mean well here and I have nothing against Birds, I’m sure he did the best he could.
I look forward to the next season, 9 points is the farthest I’ve come in a long time actually

And you deserved each point this time.
Also yeah, Scrappy is great.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
I look forward to Season 118 as well, though if I had to make just one criticism, it would be that I think near the end, Plum's questions were too hard and asking so specific things like what color is Bad Rayman's tongue
How about questions that require thought and are hard, but only moderately since many people don't care and have never seen how Bad Rayman's tongue looks like and what color it is for example and as a result can be unfair to those people.
That being said, it was a great season and I really enjoyed it, this was only a point of criticism.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
I was asking some harder questions during the seasons I hosted, mainly because some people were looking up the answers. Saying that though, no matter how hard a question I ask is, it's still easy if someone is reading it off RayWiki.
There's nothing we can do to stop that though, I can only ask people to play fair and it's just up to people whether they want to have fun or not. As for the Bad Rayman's tongue question, I read it wrong and thought it said Rayman.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
While I don't think the question about Bad Rayman was particularly problematic, I'm more bothered by the ones that expect long, boring lists or very precise numbers as an answer.
Re: TTQ: Season 118
Oh yeah, I know the ones. Don't worry, my questions won't be fixating on counting instances of stuff, what sections of songs play in areas or list all areas/quotes etc.
Edit: I guess there was the interior and exterior temperature one I asked on Hoodlum Headquarters for precise numbers, but that was a single quote.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Yeah, I understand that this contest is about fun and everything, but I think my point is still valid and I think it would be better to ask not super easy questions, but also not extremely hard questions that to be honest even I, who have played the main series (and some spin-offs) don't know the answer to. What I'm saying is keep the questions challenging and difficult, sure, but don't ask such hard questions that even fans of Rayman who have played the series don't know because that's unfair in my opinion. Basically keep them at a moderate difficulty is all I'm suggesting because that might even gain other fans of Rayman interest in the contest and join the fun
Re: TTQ: Season 118
I get what you mean and I think you're describing what Hunch is getting at. You want the question difficulty to be moderate, while not wanting them to need peculiar/specific answers that someone is never going to know off by heart. I'm not a fan of those questions either where you have to list like 20 levels etc.
EDIT: There'll be a couple of difficult ones, but they'll usually focus on what a player could know from playing the game.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying, like do you ever care about how someone's tongue looks like in a game? (not to be rude or anything)Steo wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:56 pm I get what you mean and I think you're describing what Hunch is getting at. Also, you wouldn't pay attention to that in the game and also, how is anyone supposed to know that, even someone who's a Rayman fan and have played the games? Another thing, when do you ever see Bad Rayman's tongue in Rayman 1 anyway? It's just random guessing and not knowledge and since a quiz is about what you truly know by yourself, I think those questions should be avoided. (excuse me if I sounded like a mod, I didn't want to)
Re: TTQ: Season 118
Well in Rayman Designer and Rayman Junior he has a green tongue, which you can see when he uses grimace. That one isn't a bad question to me really, it's spin-off related. Spin-off questions are allowed so long as the "bulk" remain on the main series.
I have seen some bad questions though such as list all quotes of a character, now that's a bad one.

Re: TTQ: Season 118
Oh, I thought it was a question relating to Rayman 1 in the main series! Oh, duh! Now that makes a lot more sense.Steo wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 3:20 pm Well in Rayman Designer and Rayman Junior he has a green tongue, which you can see when he uses grimace. And also, there was? That must've been a killer question then!
