I say this too but then I play Rayman 2...
...then I play Rayman again...
Both are unique and I find it hard to pick a favourite!

Rayman 1 and Rayman 3 make a tie for me. Though, I hugely liked Revolution.

Rayman 1 is better than Rayman 3.

Well, I suppose I have to agree with that.

Over time I think I’ve come to prefer the original above the others – even Rayman 2.

Can you give the reasons, Spiral?

It was my introduction to the series. The worlds are much more colourful, vibrant, imaginative and expansive. The backgrounds were spectacular and always made me want to explore the game’s world more deeply. I think the music is the best in the series. Tonally the game strikes a very good balance, with the magic and the lightheartedness of Rayman 3 but none of its embarrassing attempts at humour or coolness. I enjoyed its minimalistic plotting, sparse dialogue and straightforward story. I also find the original much more fun to play than the others, purely on a mechanical level.

I also met Rayman through Rayman 1, it was the game that made me become a fan of his series. I was amazed by the background detailing, the colours and the fluent animations. I loved also its simplicity in the game itself and the characters. But I still prefer Rayman 2. Speaking about Rayman 1, I'm remastering my gameplay for the PS1 version.

I wish the cancelled Rayman 2 in 2D was still created. It looked like an amazing game!

It was rather cool that you could play the prototype of the cancelled game at the end of the PS1 version of Rayman 2.

Ubisoft got amazed with Crash Bandicoot. You can guilt him for the transition to 3D.

I'm quite curious about the music the game would have had. I find that the 3D Rayman 2 hugely missed out on real Rayman music. Even though I have quite some music from that game in my top 10 best Rayman tracks.

I suppose it would have depended on who the composer of the game's music. I suspect that if it was the same people as the first Rayman,it would have had the same style (perhaps?).

This actually makes sense when you think about games' locations. The most similar music when you think about melody happened to appear at relatively realistic worlds. Next thing is R2's music was synthethized from scratch as long as I remember, and this dictated limited set of instruments. There come the composer differences (or, more speciffically, composing team vs. 1 composer differences).

Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 missed out on strange places like Band Land and Picture City. Rayman Origins will be my saving!

I suppose this is caused by tech. If there will be 3D R4, I wish for 3D Candy Chateau or something, or even original abstract level.
That said, what abstract levels could fit and be significantly different than R1 ones?

No,leave Crash alone. He and Rayman are my childhood heros

I was AMAZED with Crash Bandicoot 3,what a wonderful game...
Well,I prefer Rayman 1.Rayman 2 was my introduction to the series BUT I find the story too dark and sad.But Rayman 1's story is happy and Rayman always smiles.Everything is like very happy xD But in Rayman 3 even Rayman was too sarcastic...I didn't like his personality in that game!

Hmm... I thought Rayman 2 was really wonderful - that was my introduction to the series. Then I had the GBC version of 'Rayman', then I think the original; not sure about that order. Then Rayman M and then Rayman 3, which I like as a game, but not really as a
Rayman game. Then again, I also watched Star Wars at the age of whatnot so my portion of 'grip on drama' was already filled in by the nice misters Palpatine and Darth Vader, so Rayman 2 in comparisson was a lot less grim.
But I understand your opinion. Rayman 1 is a lot happier and more of a toon than Rayman 2 was, although there are still some really toony aspects in that game (ever walked a Gorilla Pirate of a cliff or have you ever been hit by one of the laser traps?).
Now Crash is a whole different story. I have Twinsanity and Nitro Cart as only ones, which I am sad to say, but those two really made my day in the years gone by. It's just so funny and clever sometimes...
Anyway, back onto Rayman 1:
Who else has had the worst time trying to figure out how to beat Space Momma - and then after you've figured out how, ACTUALLY beating her? Also, I think it's quite sad how you can get caught in a sea of spikes in Band Land sometimes and just watch Rayman die slowly... these are some aspects of the game which make it reaaaally hard at some points, though enjoyable all the way through.

Actually, I beat Rayman 1 in two weeks.
