This is literally the only reason I bought NSMBW.

At least Rayman Legends is innovative and adds some new gameplay mechanics :/
That's actually the perfect analogy. I have to use that.

Looks like your standard Mario opening to me! Yeah it's cool, but I was expecting something far better from your description ;)

Also reminds me of this:

Now I want to bring this thread back on topic, but can't think how. Hmm....

I like the Koopalings and their new look, but I dislike the fact that they're just used to ensure sales.

Now, to the rest of the people, it's pretty hard to go back on-topic with Rayman Legends right now, because there's no new info, that's why we're talking about it's competition and how lame it is... :P

They could re-use Wart in future Mario games. I mean, why not? (I still prefer Bowser but at least it would avoid the princess-kidnapping cliché)

I'm still waiting for more Rayman Legends news around here.

Nintendo's Konno on why Wart hasn't been in more games
Jun 14, 2012

M: You were one of the original designers of the NES game Doki Doki Panic. Did you find it odd that Nintendo eventually replaced those characters in Super Mario Bros. 2, and why haven't we seen more of Wart?

HK: [Laughs] You know quite a bit. On Doki Doki Panic, I worked with Mr. Tanabe, who you may know from some recent installments of the Metroid series as well. On that project, it was his first time as a director, I believe, and I was the assistant director. As you said, there were no Mario characters in the original game, but through conversations with Mr. Miyamoto, we decided to use Mario characters for the release of this game in the United States. I wouldn't say I was surprised by that development, but rather, I was involved with the process throughout.

As for why we haven't seen a lot of Wart lately, I wonder why that is? Do you think maybe he doesn't have as strong an association with the Mario universe as other characters?

M: We're not sure. We haven't seen him for so long, it's a difficult question to answer. Older fans would remember him. Perhaps there's a game where Wart returns to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, but winds up angering Bowser, since it's his goal to do the exact same thing, so that we have competing villains.

HK: That's all good stuff. I'm going to have to take notes on this. But if we're going back to Doki Doki Panic, I would have to say that the character that jumped out of that game was Shy Guy, because he's been used in so many games since then.
Here's a response :P

Likewise, they're pretty cool characters, but having them being featured as a selling point doesn't amuse me.

Didn't that happen with Super Mario Land 3D, with the Tanooki suit?

Oh well, Mario games are starting to have difficulties to surprise me. I've been playing the retro ones at the moment, I have no rush in playing the new ones.

I don't know why, but post-Galaxy Mario games seem to be relying alot on old tricks and nostalgia.
Maybe I'm getting old and what seemed new in Mario just seems same-old.

Yes, in fact. The only difference is that at least Mario 3d Land is a good game with good fresh ideas (it was actually developed by the team that worked on the Super Mario Galaxy games), mixing Mario Galaxy's gameplay with Super Mario World's mechanics. NSMB is pretty much the same crap in every game... it gets old faster than a Mario Party game...no no, even Rabbids games are less repetitive than that shit.

I never played New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

But I have MK7 and indeed the karts have the racoon tails when you get the leaf. I think they wanted to call the SMB3 fans' attention.

I like Super Mario 64/DS and Super Mario Galaxy 2, but Sunshine not really. It depends a lot of how the games are designed.

I think that for Sunshine's case the Blue Coins and controls do help to make the game much more frustrating than SM64/DS. They made the colours pallete too bright and because of that I can't play for really long periods of time or else I get motion sickness and dizzyness.

Nintendo even had problems with that: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/news_ ... tyEpilepsy

The article Haruka linked to wrote:The Sun, the biggest-selling daily tabloid newspaper in Britain, has published a report quoting a "top brain expert" who calls for Nintendo games including Mario Kart: Double Dash to be banned on the grounds of causing epileptic fits.
I don't trust The Sun, they made a similar scare recently with the 3DS.

Tabloid. Move along. Nothing to see here. They don’t give a damn about Mario Kart; all they want is public attention and site traffic, which is exactly what you’re giving them by discussing their articles as if they were in any way legitimate or worthy of serious consideration.
