Thanks guys, and congratulations dr_st on another successful season!

Don't forget you can pick a Special Rank now!
Give me number 26, whatever that is.
PluMGMK wrote: Mon Mar 27, 2023 9:38 pmTwo weeks from today I'll be in the middle of some time off, so it seems like as good a time as any to start the next season. Hopefully I don't forget…
Sweet! Looking forward to it.

OK, the rank with ID number 26 doesn't seem to be on the Special list, so I just picked the 26th item on the list sorted in alphabetical order. Hope you like it!

Oh don't worry, I'm sure one of us will remind you on April 10th!
Congratulations Plum!

It's always nice that the TTQ thread can consistently be active when it's running, on a sidenote.

Oh, nice! It's what-her-name. I asked a question about her in one of the previous seasons.

Oops, I was supposed to start this quiz two weeks ago, wasn't I?

Well, better late than never!
Question 1: Can you name a significant gameplay difference in the handling of Hearts between Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends?

Well they give you and extra life and 5 additional lums if you're already carrying with a heart, so the only difference I can think of is in how to get them. In Rayman Origins, besides breaking a flask, you can also get it if it's inside a bubble.

I don't know if I'd call that significant… There's something that can affect where and when you have a Heart.

Perhaps you mean the behavior at beginnings and ends of levels?
In Origins, Hearts you carry at the end of the level stay with you for when you start the next one.
In Legends, Hearts are converted to lums and are not carried over. However, most levels (excluding the special ones, like music and princess rescue) will have a Heart available during the level entry transition sequence, which you can break if you are fast enough, thus starting a level with a Heart.

Question 2: Which main series title has no animation or music on the Ubi Soft opening logo?

Rayman 2, I presume? At least on the PC version I have a memory of a static logo. The music starts later.

That's the one I mean! (Technically it would also have been correct to mention Rayman 1 as shipped on the UK Focus release of Rayman Gold, but Rayman 2 is definitely more in the spirit of it!)

Question 3: (dr_st can't answer) Which Rayman M character shares a voice actor with the protagonist of a non-Rayman Michel Ancel game?

Pretty sure that it's
Jade Tily!

Question 4: In Rayman Adventures, Incrediballs are fed using what looks somewhat like fried chicken. Where in the original trilogy can a similar foodstuff briefly be seen?

In the "Wanna Kick Rayman?" instructional videos (Rayman 3)? I don't know if that chicken is like the one in Adventures, because I haven't actually played the latter.

Question 5: In what way is sliding on a slippery surface in Rayman 1 similar to riding a plum in Rayman 2, and vice versa?

I guess I'll give this one a shot as well.
Sliding on a slippery surface in Rayman 1 is similar to riding a plum in Rayman 2 in that in both cases you throw punches to go in the opposite direction.
Vice versa? Do you mean how sliding on a slippery surface in Rayman 2 is similar to riding a plum in Rayman 1? I suppose the most significant similarity that comes to mind is that in both mechanics you can never come to a full stop (unless you hit a platform / wall).

Yes, both demonstrate conservation of momentum! (Though thinking about it, the Rayman 1 case lacks rigour, since if momentum is really conserved then Rayman should slide back towards his fist when it starts flying back towards him

)

Yes indeed! I was thinking about how you can only change direction by turning Rayman, but this covers it too!

Question 6: (dr_st can't answer) I mentioned conservation of momentum above, so how about another physics one: where in the main series games can you see the Coriolis effect in action?

I can't remember if this is the case in that infamous section of the Iron Mountains where you have to shoot at switches from a spinning platform.
