Those are pretty much my exact views, unfortunately I'm not able to put things into words quite that well.

I'm also an atheist, mostly because first of all, I never saw god. And second: I believe in science.

Re: Religion – your views
But what's funny is that when someone is in a situation of dispair, he/she can grab on anything: even in religion.

This is true, even if they've been an Atheist all their life.Haruka wrote:But what's funny is that when someone is in a situation of dispair, he/she can grab on anything: even in religion.

Yeah, I can witness this by myself in certain situations.RayFan9876 wrote:This is true, even if they've been an Atheist all their life.Haruka wrote:But what's funny is that when someone is in a situation of dispair, he/she can grab on anything: even in religion.

There's no such thing as "believing in science".Haruka wrote:I'm also an atheist, mostly because first of all, I never saw god. And second: I believe in science.

I think she meant "believing in the scientific explanation."DesLife wrote:There's no such thing as "believing in science".Haruka wrote:I'm also an atheist, mostly because first of all, I never saw god. And second: I believe in science.

Firstly, and secondly science and religion are not incompatible.DesLife wrote:There's no such thing as "believing in science".Haruka wrote:I'm also an atheist, mostly because first of all, I never saw god. And second: I believe in science.

Re: Religion – your views
If going by the literal meaning of religion then yes, they are incompatible. Often though people use the term "religion" outside of worshiping a supernatural deity and just "believing in a supreme power," which has a shot at having a scientific answer, and it may be the same answer that we are striving for as well: How and why the universe is. However there's nothing to negate the possibility of if our universe was created by someone or something within another universe.Hunchman801 wrote:Firstly, and secondly science and religion are not incompatible.DesLife wrote:There's no such thing as "believing in science".Haruka wrote:I'm also an atheist, mostly because first of all, I never saw god. If that's the case then we have something even more interesting to strive for: the origin of every universe that ever was. Maybe we cannot possibly reach any information outside our own universe.
If I'm sounding ridiculous it's because I'm in one of those tired, dreamy night time highs.

Re: Religion – your views
I'm not sure what you mean by “literal meaning of religion”, but if you meant “literal interpretation of religious texts”, then yes science and religion are incompatible, but the former doesn't necessarily (and fortunately quite rarely) imply such a strict understanding of holy scriptures.

Whereas people I've noticed commonly misuse the work "religion" when referring to their beliefs of another creator - which at first sounds like religion, but isn't.Google wrote:re·li·gion/riˈlijən/

Then you are wrong, such a belief is not necessarily incompatible with science.RayFan9876 wrote:I meant the literal definition of religion:

Yes. It doesn't you can't find scientists that believe in a superior identity.Hunchman801 wrote:Then you are wrong, such a belief is not necessarily incompatible with science.RayFan9876 wrote:I meant the literal definition of religion:

Re: Religion – your views
Well, my views sure have evolved since last summer.
I came to the conclusion that the idea that God would care about us believing in him is just stupid.
He's like a father that abandoned his child at birth.
