Well, lyndo64 almost nailed it. The answer I was looking for indeed has to do with flying. The blue canisters enable Rayman to fly, like the Throttle Copter in Rayman 3. Then, collecting blue lums can extend the flight power, just like blue lums in R3 GBA.

Anyhow, it's Christmas Day, so let's be generous and give the point anyways!
