ey Dave seven's a lucky number! Congrats!

+ I got a job
- the job gave me the wrong information about pay on contract and now I'm earning almost half of what was stated per hour
- manager basically said "yeah no, it's 12.25 an hour, not 20. We'll send you a new contract shortly" after I've been working there for about a month now.

- One of these nights I will actually go to bed at a good time, but sadly tonight wasn't one of them.
+ Plus side though, was the fact I managed to get a few things accomplished between some DOSBOX/86Box related configurations, and internet swap at the lake house was completed!

+ Had a lot of fun watching Reese stream.
- Stayed up excessively late in the process.

+ got to watch The Outsiders at an arthouse theater
- fell asleep multiple times trying to watch Donnie Darko, maybe I should not start movies at a 11:00 PM, lol

+ Played the Bubsy 4D demo until 6 in the morning yesterday.

+/- It's fun, but...I have my nitpicks about it. Don't like the rolling gimmick (though that's probably because I'm using tank controls!) among other things like Bubsy's redesign and his *friends* being jerks. Unfortunately the demo didn't give us the option to unlock his old t-shirt as a costume, so I had to go with the Bubsy 3D outfit, which was also half-assed but at least it somehow fits in. Like...He has facial expressions in Bubsy 3D, he looks around and all, I know it was probably a joke outfit in 4D but it bugs me. Also by guessing via the totals, Bubsy 4D's probably only gonna have 15 levels (12 normal/3 bosses.) Which makes Bubsy 3D LONGER somehow. 18 levels (15 levels and 3 bosses.)

+/- I got mild heat exhaustion this morning because I took a super long walk the other day. I was looking for something for my Halloween costume, and didn't find anything, so I had to hike back home in some blazing heat. Guess it was too much for me.

+ Finally found the time and headspace to put this together: + AND IT WORKS! My serial port and onboard audio are finally working again, I'm so happy right now!
± I had a sort of hissy fit initially when the serial port appeared not to work, having forgotten that I'd turned it off in the BIOS when I got a PCI card in my previous failed attempt to solve the problem
– It's a pity I don't have heatshrink or anything, because I'm not really happy having all these exposed solder joints: ± I think I'm gonna have to find the time and headspace to write a blog post about all this, which feels kinda daunting, but if I put it off it'll just get harder because the details will start to fade from my mind

+ Also received my BG&E Collector's Edition today, on a Saturday of all days!
+ So I did all the soldering work wearing my golden IRIS pin, which is much less inconvenient to wear than it looks The question is, am I gonna start wearing it in public…

Actually, this would be pretty useful for using modern PSU's on retro hardware anyway, especially with the select audio cards that require the negative voltage rail, huh?

Select audio cards? This is my motherboard's bog-standard built-in HD Audio chip, from 2014! But you're right, I think there's a market niche for a more professionally-built version of what I hacked together tonight!

I said select, as I can't think of all the card names from the top of my head right now, other than Gravis Ultrasound audio cards.

But my point is, it's not just those retro ones, it's a lot of modern audio chips too!

Hmm, how recent does "modern" come to in this context? Are there audio chips in PC hardware from this decade that still require a negative rail?

Probably not this decade, since it became "optional" in ATX3.0, but last decade is a lot more recent than the Gravis UltraSound!

Quite so, I'm more curious as to the cut-off point since it feels like PC hardware standards are usually relatively glacial when it comes to deprecation and removal.

- Despite getting enough sleep, I slept several times today for certain amounts of time.
+ Only ate once today, as I went to eat hotpot with sister (and we usually eat a lot there). Getting pizza tomorrow too so this will be fun!
- I have to replay TLOTLD again. My score was pathetic. Maybe I was a little too overconfident there

+ went outside yesterday!
- but I got kicked out of Walmart because I was on th floor with my toonies and emptying out the Gacha machine, I only got 5 before an employee asked me to leave!
This is why I don’t go outside!

+ Got up marginally earlier today.
