I think in short, people who don't understand algebra should be very happy that it exists.

Yeah, screw algebra. Sports rule!!
+ Football practice.
- Lack of an offensive line to train. I got wrecked all night. Pounded into the ground, punched in the arms, swiped in the legs, the whole sha-bang.
++++ I feel great this morning
-- Almost makes you forget that it was a nightmare to put the bike on the train since the first two were cancelled due to a dead animal on track.

Sports have numbers in the form of keeping score.

Luckily this is my last math class… then, I’m done!

Nah fuck maths. I hope I never have to mix letters and numbers again in equations after I finish GCSE.
Uh huh, sure. Without math and numbers you won't know how many posts you've made on this forum.

True, stuff like 30+83 you’re kinda inevitable to have to solve “in the real world” but hopefully I never have to do anything like (x+14)(x+81)(x+93) after Year 11.

An equation is a good way of problem solving though. You use it internally everyday and stuff like geometry is useful when you want to address bigger issues. Like when I did to create my L-shape desk, it came in handy to have the correct measurements.
Stuff like derivative function, or even harder like conceptive rings or matrix calculations get further removed from reality. However, there's a reason you start learning them after graduation.

I mean, Rayman 2's engine uses matrices all over the place!

You'd be surprised how useful a lot of the math is that people deem useless while they're still in school, simply due to lack of interest in learning it. I used to say the same about history, like why do I need to know about something that happened centuries before I was born, and at this point I find a lot of that stuff interesting. Regarding math though, it's amazing how useful triangles are.

Programming goes a bit beyond everyday life, I'd argue

Not if you're a game developer, which I assume at least some of our members are interested in becoming!

I'd already been doing a little bit of it in my spare time, maths has already proven useful even to do the swinging pendulum motion like in Rayman 1.

+ Listened to some nostalgic playlists.
- None of them had Stereo Love. WHY DO PEOPLE EASILY MISS THAT SONG IN ANY PLAYLIST. Seriously. At least my playlist on Spotify has it.

See this is why math is fun!
- Haven't been doing much the past few days. What is wrong with me??
+ Going for a walk earlier today since the days are getting darker quickly.
I didn't really know what to call the motion either, I literally just think of an old clock with a pendulum.

It sounds like the type of line to get one bullied, though interestingly it's more fun to me than what the type of people who would bully others for it are into.

Which reminds me that liking the Simpsons (and having a Simpsons mug) is probably the most obvious thing that sets me apart as much older than the other PhD students

I'm not sure if it's a problem that I laughed loudly as soon as Nelson attacked him for saying it.

- Tired now. I sleep soon.
