Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Well I personnally think the gameplay is way too repetitive to be boring, which is why I think it's a bad game.
But I also think the elements put together in the story are insulting to the fans of the serie, which is why I think it's a bad game for everyone else.
Put those two together and you see why I consider it garbage. Easily my biggest disappointment ever.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
It's a fucking Dynasty Warriors game- if you hate this game then you hate all DW games.
If you were expecting a hack 'n slash with lots of skill, you came to the wrong place.
It is a tad repetitive but I think the game is a massive tribute to Zelda fans- hence all the themes. The only difficulty in it is going back and fourth to help a teammate, which give it an attempt in straying away from the repetitiveness but still.

Well I didn't know the DW serie back then, and I bought Hyrule Warriors with an open mind, which is now closed. Thus, yes, I probably hate all DW games. But I'll never find out.Rayfist wrote:It's a fucking Dynasty Warriors game- if you hate this game then you hate all DW games.
All the themes that revolves around Ocarina Of Time, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Seriously, they couldn't throw away more in the mix?Rayfist wrote:It is a tad repetitive but I think the game is a massive tribute to Zelda fans- hence all the themes.
Oh but wait, I forgot : there's the Moon of Majora in the game, which makes no sense in a story about time travel, and you make it crash thousands of times on the plains of Hyrule, who subsequently isn't torn asunder. There's also the Dream Whale of Link's Awakening in the Skyward City, for whatever sense that makes...
What happened to the other games, and it's other fighters? Mikan would have worked fine in a "I used my guitar as a weapon like Sheik" kind of way? What happened to Ricky, Ralph, Veran, Onox, Vaati or Exelo? And it's an non-exhaustive list, with a bit of creativity, something could have been done with Din/Nayru/Farore. They would have been good fighters, at least better than Machaon the bug-lady...
They couldn't be asked to create what was asked of them : a massive crossover between most, if not all the games. Instead we have a 3-game meetup tied together by a sorceress whose breast are so huge they just needed to put her in Majora's Mask 3D above the clock tower to absorb the blow of the moon. So feel free to enjoy this game, I thought it was insulting to me as a fan. To me, you cannot duck-tape imagery of two different things and call it a crossover. Make it coherent or go home.

It's like there always has to be rhyme and reason in fiction.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I can agree the story on HW was really stupid, but the story was not a reason I played it at all. I just think gameplay wise it's a decent hack 'n slash.
Co-op is also insanely fun, me and a friend played through few levels and had a blast- shame it lacks online.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
It's like I say, story in a game isn't important. It's an added bonus if the devs want one. I'm playing a game, not watching a movie.

Not always true but a good chunk of the time yeah. Metal Gear is a huge exception since that series lives off of story.Bradandez wrote:story in a game isn't important

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
It depends really on the experience the game is trying to give, games like the Elder Scrolls wouldn't be anywhere near as engrossing if they didn't have the lore and story in place. Other games, like Mario and so on, don't really need a story. Personally, I do like a bit of a story, just to give me a little motivation.

Indeed, story I think is a nice addition, even if it isn't all that important, as sometime it can motivate the player.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I think therein also lies one of the major points of contention in regards to how we want the Rayman games in the future to be. I think it's fair to say that some would be happier if Rayman returned to having more semblance of a plot, and having some more background lore as done with the Knowledge of the World. Others feel that a plot isn't really necessary to the series and the games work fine without.
Personally, I'd like for there to be a balance, Origins and Legends were both fine titles, but they could have added some extra oomph to some moments, the key one probably being Ales' betrayal.

Yes, a lot of the criticism's I see for Origins and Legends is the lack of any story. I really want to be more immeresed in Rayman's world, and I can't do much of that without an additional story.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
So I guess Legends' opening cutscene didn't say what was going on? Okay.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
That's not what I'm saying, stop stuffing words in my mouth :I
I'm saying that I'd like more of a diverse and a more immersive (Subjective but whatever), story. And I feel RO and RL both lacked that in comparison to R2.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
In the case of Hyrule Warriors, the story needing to be correct with canon material would be like criticising Smash Bros because Mario shouldn't be able to breathe in a space themed stage.
--
I mean, there's nothing wrong with the story in Origins/Legends since they weren't aiming for them to be story based games anyway. Like I said a while back, I'd have to loved to have seen some wacky short cutscenes that focused on the characters and the progress they're making, but it's not something I'd ever legitimately criticise the games for lacking.

Origins and Legends are not story based games though. Why do people still say it needs a story? Let the games be gameplay driven as they are intended.
And I agree with Keane. I would love to see like a small cutscene. I'd also would of loved if each world had an intro cutscene like Teensies in Trouble did, but I ain't holding that against Legends. I love both games as they are. They both have motives to play the games.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Do you remember before Origins was released? There planned to be a lot more backstory. How do you know it's a bad decision if we haven't seen it applied to Origins or Legends yet?Bradandez wrote:Origins and Legends are not story based games though. Why do people still say it needs a story?
Yes, I agree with this. Have you played Spyro 2? Before entering each world a cutscene plays to introduce you to that world and the characters in it, I REALLY REALLY love that approach in my opinion.Bradandez wrote:each world had intro cutscene like Teensies in Trouble did
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
It's just something we would have preferred, but it's not like I'd count points off for lacking it if I were to review the games. Looking at the games in the way they were intended they're excellent, Legends is easily one of the best platformers I've ever played.
That kind of thinking isn't exclusive to the new Rayman games, that's just games in general for me. When Black Mesa was still in production I had a lot of ideas of how I'd reimagine Half-Life, and Black Mesa ended up tweaking some things just like that. If Rayman 2 got a remake, I'd be just as eager to see one or two things change, but the fact that R2 does not have those things doesn't actually take away from the game.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Exactly. I'm simply stating, what's wrong with adding it? Like there's so many ANTI story people here. We haven't even seen a serious story in the Origins/Legends style so I say it wouldn't hurt to add, would it?Keane wrote:It's just something we would have preferred, but it's not like I'd count points off for lacking it
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Oh my God. I'm not saying I'm against it, I'm just saying I don't care if it was implemented or if it was cut. I'm just saying I can still enjoy the game without any story. Also, didn't members say the UbiArt games were too wackily stylized to be serious?
And I didn't know about Spyro 2 and its world opening cutscenes. I was referring to Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze's cutscenes since they did that.

Where did I say you did say there was something wrong with it? I'm not implying you.
I refer to other people on this forums or elsewhere who say that there's no need for a story at all and it's unnecessary.

Possibly, but I highly disagree. Cartoons can still have a serious overall plot while still being comedic at times.Bradandez wrote: Also, didn't members say the UbiArt games were too wackily stylized to be serious?
