Well yeah, plenty of people get addicted to games and spend way too much time playing them.

yes, my mom and step-dad for one. IMO its only bad when that's all you do in life, but then again its not healthy to do anything in over-moderation.

That doesn't make games themselves a disease though.

Games are another form of entertainment, just like anything else. You can get "addicted" on anything, from sex and drugs to TV shows. Just because something can be addicting doesn't make it a bad form of entertainment.
Who is this strange person and what has he done with spiraldoor?

On the contrary, it's been scientifically proven that video games are not addictive. While one can get addicted to a video game, it's nothing to do with the video game itself being addictive, it just contains something that can be addictive. These instances are rare. For example, if a video game was all about gambling, one could easily get addicted, but that wouldn't be a video game addiction, merely a gambling addiction.
sanic wat hav u done to me u made me looz all mah money in casino night zone :c

Exactly. For instance, a compelling game such as Rayman 1 would be addicting, while something like Big Rigs wouldn't be.

Well, to put it another way, there's no scientific evidence to support that video games contain nicotine.

Yes. I didn't say anything contrary to this at all.

It's not rare at all, I've been addicted to loads of games over the years. Of course they can be addictive. Anything can, and they're fun. Some people are addicted to pain for example. Saying that games are only addictive when they contain addictive elements like gambling seems like an awkward attempt to defend the medium.

I'm sure there's someone out there who's addicted to Big Rigs. This is way too subjective to call.

People "diagnose" themselves with various conditions all of the time and it is often bullshit. A lot of people have various interpretations of what addiction is, when there is a definitive meaning for it. There is nothing to say video games are addictive in principle. The common portrayal of "video game addiction" by the media is "getting mad when your beloved video games are taken away from you". That's not addiction to video games, nor is it a trait specific to addiction. Take candy from a baby, and it will scream and cry.
I mean, you could throw nicotine into a cupcake, but that doesn't mean the cupcake is addictive.

They don't know anything, just show them all the famous gamers and make them realize how big gaming is worldwide.
spiraldoor wrote:Well yeah, plenty of people get addicted to games and spend way too much time playing them.
More playing = more fun

I think people should play games most as possible unless they don't have more important work to do.
@Sonic
I agree

Because I had parents and relatives that were against gaming, due to issues that my cousin (who has since gone to military school) had with them or some bullshit reason like that. I was only a casual iOS gamer (let the hate ensue) until my older cousin (now 26) saved my mind from the clutches of casual gaming, and introduced me to my new best friend, the PS3. My interests have expanded since then, but I'm still not as big a gamer as my cousin is currently.

He stole money from his parents to buy new first-person shooters.

Since it was for FPS, it was not good reason to steal parents money.
If it was for Platformer...
lol jk

But I still always ask before I get a non-free game, if fibbing about the ESRB rating.

Well you're not that close, the year 2000 separates you from the new millennium.
Well, the bottom line is that everyone on here's either Generation Y or Z.

@DLL:
I actually thought I recall your thirteenth birthday happening since you joined. Must've confused that with someone else then.
