Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Just thought I'd bring up an old story about Rayman Advance, when I went to GameStop as a kid and saw it, there were 2 copies, one with the green boxart and one with the blue boxart. I was real young (I think I was 6 or 7), I didn't know that they were the same game.
You can imagine how confused I was with 2 copies of the same game that had different boxarts. To make matters worse, the blue copy had a previous save on it with all of Rayman's powers unlocked, even furthering my confusion (I didn't learn about cartridge saving until I was a lot older).
Was there a reason why the game had 2 box arts? Come to think of it, some other Rayman games in America had some boxart differences. I remember seeing a copy of Rayman Raving Rabbids with bold white letters instead of little black letters, and Rayman was wearing pants. I also remember a Dreamcast copy of Rayman 2 with a different Rayman model in the same position as the other box arts, but his eyes weren't facing the viewer or something.
These two to be exact:
RRR: storage/22835/e3e7c16cdabc11bdd00e11d3ebf78e0f
Rayman 2: storage/20220/af64f8e747d98eec7991d857e39e0c66

I'm pretty sure I initially posted that on the English forum for you; unfortunately I had to edit it in to avoid double posting. Then, when the topic was bumped later, I didn't repost it because I assumed you'd seen it and deemed it too low quality. My apologies for the confusion.THEdragon wrote:Also, remember a while back when I asked for the scrapped R1 portal sprite and no-one had it? I ended up finding it in a french topic about Rayman Designer, in a post by PluMGMK.

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
There are a lot of versions of the RRR cover, for some reason.

I don't think any of them were version exclusive, either. Probably just regional.

This might have been discussed before, but what's with the red around Ray's eyes?

I think it's his hair, like how hair is darker around the roots for some people.

Oh! I didn't see that!PluMGMK wrote:I'm pretty sure I initially posted that on the English forum for you; unfortunately I had to edit it in to avoid double posting. Everyone knows it's eyeshadow.Keane wrote:This might have been discussed before, but what's with the red around Ray's eyes?
Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
I mean, whatever look they were trying to achieve with this game, putting Ray on the cover with a smile like that instantly kills any cool he might have been intended to have

"I'd probably fuck a Rabbid"
"I'd probably fuck a Rabbid"
Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
I honestly prefer that expression to the constant I'm-always-angry-but-in-an-edgy-teen-angst-way look he usually had in that era.
Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Okay guys, I found something really really rare! I buyed a magazine called: "Le journal de Mickey." about Rayman 3.
So a friend of mine on DeviantART told me, unused power-ups are in the magazine! So I got it and wanted to share the pages with you!

Can someone who is French, translate that for us?

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Whoa, you found real gems in page 4 and 5!
I never saw most of those artworks before!
It is completely inédit for the community because no one has ever seen the Combat Fatigue designs for when Rayman was still using the R2 design, neverseen before creature designs and early concept arts for the Knaaren! Fantastic sharing over there!

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Some of those scrapped powerups looks REALLY over the top, it was more than being a simple recolor (with the exception of the helicopter power which had the helmet). So over the top that I kind of wish they kept them.
Are those different designs for Reflux on the 4th page? I can't read French but if so, man I'm glad they stuck with that final design. (The 3rd one looks like the great mighty poo kind of.)

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
It is for the Knaaren in general I believe. It only says there that "the final monster is nothing related with the first sketches".
I'm updating some RayWiki pages quickly before going to have lunch and to school.

Ah, I wasn't aware, thought it might be for Reflux considering the fact he was right next to those.

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Hmm, looking at that article, I'm wondering if it's mixed up the Heavy Metal Fist and Shock Rocket. If you look at the two, you'll notice that for one thing, the supposed Shock Rocket's design is more in common with the final Heavy Metal Fist. You'll also notice that the supposed Heavy Metal Fist has different designs for each of Rayman's hands, and the hand that is being launched has what looks like a "boom" inscribed on it, while also seemingly being propelled by flame, traits more akin to the Shock Rocket.
Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
I just followed the french text and there was a design swap for the final versions.

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
I know the French text states that they are what they are, but given the similarities and nature of the powerups, I'm compelled to believe that it's a mistake by the article, even disregarding what we know, the way they're designed doesn't fit their power-up, I don't think the designers would have coincidentally come up with designs that would fit with the other.
There's obviously no concrete evidence I can bring up, just my own intuition, but seeing as this is a third-party article, and not direct from a developer, I think it being a mistake is plausible possibility.

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Yes, Reflux was the beta skin
Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
@Master It also occured to me it could be a mistake but the problem is we have no more evidences.

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
Indeed, however, that doesn't necessarily mean we should take that article's word completely. Our own intuition tells us otherwise, as such, I'd be inclined to note the potential for it being a mistake, as opposed to outright proof of a swap, as there's no word other than the third-party on this.

Re: Rare Rayman Pictures
I agree with Master. It looks like the magazine confused the Shock Rocket and the Heavy Metal Fist.
Also, do you see that sheep among the scrapped creatures? Could it be a Goaty? (https://raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Goaty)
