I can't wait for this movie to be released over here; Simon Pegg is probably one of my favourite comedian actors. Unfortunately, while the States are getting a release during August, there's been no confirmed Canadian release date.

Damn, it's already out in the States? Looking forward to it. I too am quite a fan of Pegg's work.

GlueTube is in Britain, if I recall correctly, looking at local listings for my cinema, it's out in the UK.

Either I unknowingly typed something incorrectly, or both you and Keane misinterpreted my post. :oops2:

@Master:
I know GlueTube is British, I was stating that the United States are getting an August release.

@Keane:
No it's not out, what? Not unless August has come very early this year.

All of you, watch Spaced.

@Ad, sorry, that post was directed to Keane, who stated that it had come out in the States, I was correcting him by pointing out what you said.

Ahah, spiraldoor! I remember watching Spaced as a kid. It was... well, spaced out. There's this scene with a phone ringing and one of the characters completely trips out, hearing all kinds of background noises as parts of an 'epic' remix which really cracked me up.

Haha, Spaced was indeed a great show. The episode with David Williams as Vulva was brilliant!

Rewatched District 9, since it repeated on TV yesterday night. I still think it is a fantastic movie, criticizing the human blindness for money and power and the human race cruelty, not to mention I love the visual effects done in the whole movie and the performance of Wikkus' actor, that felt very realistic. I also am kind of a fan of the "prawns" design. Brilliant.

District 9 is excellent, but its social commentary is really simplistic. People give it too much credit.

Social commentary? You mean the plot itself, or other details in particular?

I mean the political parallels. The film is about apartheid. Aliens = black people. It's all very overt. There's zero room for interpretation.

Oh, the racism thing. I think there was also a polemics after how nigerians were portraited in the movie, but that's something I heard somewhere.

Anyway, I find the movie pretty good in its whole.

It also doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, because black people, while an obvious topic of controversy, weren't like a single thing to be accepted over the course of the next thirty years. This generation as a whole is a fraction as prejudice due to obvious scientific enlightenment. While the movie is science-fiction, I have an extraordinarily hard time believing that 95% of the population would act anywhere near as malevolent as they were, and as such, the whole city turns into a bloody mental institution. That's not just discrimination, their hate is like their highest fucking priority instinct.

The movie's direction was excellent indeed, but I found those parts of the movie to be so incredibly stupid and distracting.

I love how it starts off as a mockumentary, then transitions into a cinematic drama so gracefully that you don't even notice the shift. It's the only "cinéma vérité"-type film that I really like.

Red 2. The first movie, despite its mistakes, made for an enjoyable movie with good comedy. It wasn't anything more then average but had enough to keep you interested and entertained. The sequel, however, didn't quite manage to pull this off. Red 2 isn't a bad movie, it just shouldn't have been a comedy, because it's not funny. I chuckled maybe twice throughout the entire movie. Its got a good plot and a fair set of characters (Except some typical American action cliches like the US government good guy or the generic Russian who clearly isn't played by a Russian actor.) and the set up would seem like there would be enough to make some jokes about. Instead much of the humour just feels very awkward and often repetitive.

If your in for a decent action movie then this might interest you, but don't expect the humour from the original.

I watched this short film few days ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wav5KjBHbI

I think it is nicely executed.

Monsters University. Boy it was creative. I honestly have no idea why people say it doesn't fulfill Pixar standards. I think it does.
