People laughed at me this time last week for thinking Ryan O'Shaughnessy had a chance… Then apparently he became the bookies' third-favourite… Then ended up finishing way down the chart anyway!
Well done Israel anyway! The song's really grown on me since I made that post four days ago, even if my parents still hate it!

Good brag.
Nicely done. :fou:

I'm a little sour about Israel winning because they've been pretty open and upfront about wanting to use the contest to basically whitewash themselves and turn it into a propagandic shitshow, and I liked that people told Russia to fuck off with that back in 2016. It was kinda satisfying to see that they threw in the towel on trying to outraise the competition this year.

But obviously that doesn't have anything to do with the actual artist herself and I thought she carried the performance really well, when they played the highlight reel of all the tracks it was very obvious how she stood out from the rest of the pop competitors. I didn't really have a favourite personally, I liked Hungary and Austria came through much better in the live peformance, but nothing I'm planning to return to now that it's over.

LOL that was fucking awful, I loved how they kept doubling down on their little snake dance thing like they thought that was gonna be the cool new trend that would spark off from their song.

It was a metaphor for the bullies that mocked her in school, the point was that she was mocking them back in the same way they did to her with a "now I'm at Eurovision and more successful than any of you" context.

Apparently the "real music" crowd was very offended but I'm still surprised there's apparently people who go into Eurovision thinking they're about to witness high-brow professional music making, there were like 15 derivative radio pop singles and at least two dabs.

Indeed, I should have figured that. Well, I liked it anyway!

That sucks indeed, and is why I couldn't bring myself to vote for the song. Also I know over the next year now we're gonna have people on the radio yammering our ears off about boycotting the contest, but no way will that be acted on.

Never watched Eurovision before (nor did I this time) but I’ve heard a lot of talk about it and ended up watching the winning performance, and the UK’s performance with the interruption. I thought they were both quite bad, Israel’s was kind of over the top and the lyrics were pretty unimaginative, though it was still better than the incredibly generic UK entry.
Israel was fun to watch though and I’m sure that plays a large part in who wins.

Oh Jesus... fuck that! Holy shit, that Gromee guy looked like a fucking retarded dork with that smile on his face. The song wasn't interesting, but I wonder if we would do better if the other guy sang on pitch...

Well, it's that time of year again… I guess I say it every year, but I think we might actually be in with a chance this time :fou:

Whether it has a chance or not, our entry this year reminds me somewhat of one of the Black Mesa Xen tracks… :hap:

Ireland's Eurovision journey this year feels quite Faustian. Despite still having a sizeable Catholic population here, we were so desperate to get through to the final that we decided to send over: a practising witch, who labels their genre "ouija pop"! And it seems to have worked… we're through to the final. :?

Our habitual EuroVision commentator Marty Whelan is delighted, even though (if I remember his autobio correctly) his faith in God is important to him. And a few weeks ago when Patrick Kielty interviewed Bambie on TV, he prefaced it by acknowledging the dissonance somewhat: he said "the Lord does work in mysterious ways" and blessed the audience with the sign of the cross.

So yeah, I dunno…

I don't know any of the contestants. Can we bring back Lordi, please? :)

Not the biggest fan of this contest, but I'm always curious about the songs (at least the ones that seem candidates to win the contest). To be honest, I can't say anything bad about the top 5 favourite songs, because Spain's candidate is a woman who is proud to be a bitch. I'm not kidding, the lyrics literally say so and I think it's kinda cringe xDDDD. So Plum, don't worry about Ireland, there are worse songs out there

I’m rather tempted to watch Eurovision this year (for the first time ever) I don’t know any of the contestants either Dave

The reason I’m interested now is that our school did a school edition Eurovision with all 10 guilds participating. We didn’t win but it was fun and now I wanna watch it :D

I guess Eurovision can be fun to watch, but I wouldn't consider it a serious talent show (if it ever was considered as that). My feeling is that most of the times it really depends on the political/social situation of each country/singer. I gotta say it ain't like that always, I think the 2012 winner was fair, for example, but hey, there are always exceptions and probably 2012 was one of them.

Yeah, the fact that the public votes went the way they did makes it clear that it's all political nonsense rather than being based on talent these days. It's a shame.

UK -> 0 Votes.
Other country where politics apply -> 323 votes.

The public pity voting instead of voting due to the performance just ruins the whole point of the contest. It has no meaning anymore. I get that there are problems in the world, but put the politics to one side for a minute and just enjoy the show while having a fair contest like.

I'm just glad it's all over tbh. I hear our entry came sixth, which seems appropriate enough :bad:

My girlfriend liked Ireland's song and wanted then to win. :P

She's surprisingly into dark music and metal, without going around wearing all black and having black eyeliner on with white face paint.

I haven’t finished watching it yet (I’m only in entry 9 ) but I take the UK lost?

I wasn't surprised for the political bias, let's not kid ourselves. It seems that you have to be at war or have a misfortune to have a chance of winning.
As for Spain... Well, I already warned that it was going to be embarrassing

Hell yeah, Lordi must have been the best band to ever feature at Eurovision, or at least that I know of. That thing has been going on for a while after all!

I'm not exaggerating if I tell you that, along with 2012, they are the only winning performances I liked :P

Weird to see people are happy with the Spanish singer :fou:. The Spanish singer is chosen at a music festival. So far so good, the problem is that the audience of that festival tends to vote based more on politics than on musical performance... And well, you can see what it was

I watched a bit more, and to be honest I get why the UK lost. Sure, Spain and Ireland were weird as hell but they had a certain charm to them. The UK was just flat out weird but I do think there was SOME political bias in that.

And guess what? If you're not at war or anything and even cater to the united Europe theme, you can still get disqualified because of backstage shenanigans. Reeks of corruption to me.
