What do you mean by that exactly?
Second hand Nintendo games? Cheap? Oh you poor soul.Greengoop wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 6:10 pmGeneration 8 will probably be cheaper second hand at this point.
Because British people are essentially in a state of always crawling under their guilt due to them leaving the EU.EdgeRabbit wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 6:37 pm The united kingdom... why is one of their starters a lizard?
Exactly! And the monkey starter is fairly obviousPirez wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:29 pm Because British people are essentially in a state of always crawling under their guilt due to them leaving the EU.
Heh, I like that answer, since admittedly I'm much more interested in playing Gen 5 than the other 2. Plus a few of my favorite Pokemon lines is in this generation group. I'd probably go with White first, then Black 2/White 2.Master wrote: Mon May 19, 2025 8:28 pm I'm a little biased, but if I were to recommend a Generation between 4-6, it'd be 5. I'll admit I've not played 6, so this opinion is partially formed by hearsay, but I feel like Gen 5 felt like it was the last time Game Freak had the time and capability to properly "cook" as it were. Gen 4 was great, but being on the same hardware, Gen 5 could refine and expand on what Gen 4 did, and it's impressive just how much more detailed and improved Gen 5 is compared to Gen 4 bearing that in mind.
Gen 6 from what I've seen, never really got the chance to properly shine, from what I've heard and seen it felt like all of Gen 6's games felt like they were missing a little something. Gen 7 wasn't much better mind...
Guilt? Or frustration that it hasn't been borne out properly? Cause you might think the latter based on the Torygraph and Daily Fail's front pages yesterday…Pirez wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:29 pmBecause British people are essentially in a state of always crawling under their guilt due to them leaving the EU.EdgeRabbit wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 6:37 pm The united kingdom... why is one of their starters a lizard?
Oh i do this with games very often. If another one catches my attention, i switch to it immediately and forget about the other one. The downside is, by the time I get back to it, there's a chance I delete the file and start over since I had no idea what I was doing when I stopped.CosmicStrider wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 1:19 amThat's interesting! (Sometimes games wind up on pause, don't get me started on Spirit Tracks. But I've always wanted to try this game and I did eventually, just haven't quite finished it fully yet (as in finished the last round of the Orre Colosseum).)
Hey, I reset when I fail to catch a Shadow Mon too! Though who wouldn't? And believe me, I'm a little nervous about Gale's final battles...The Jonster wrote:Definitely one of the better things about Gale of Darkness! Don't have to wait for ages to try and catch a shadow pokemon i somehow missed! Although that usually isn't a problem with me since, being a perfectionist I am, I always resetted everytime I failed to catch a Shadow Pokemon. You can imagine how long then it took me to actually finish Colosseum, with its six straight battles of Shadow Pokemon (oh and did I mention the last 2 battles were sudden jumps in levels so they catch me off guard)
I tend to make several files (I use emulation) and then create a different team each time, so I dont' really have a personal starter team for any of the PMD games. As a kid I never gave nicknames cuz I always liked the names each Pokemon had. These days though I wouldn't mind giving nicknames, but there's like so many Pokemon for me to recruit and nicknaming them all would be...a very long process.CosmicStrider wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 1:19 amMan, I can relate to the constant struggle. I picked Torchic and Chikorita, since they were my duo in MD Blue. (In Sky it was Riolu and Eevee. Two mons with bite was pretty helpful!) But yeah, what an uphill battle Super MD was...And I'll admit, I was surprised that you don't nickname your mons, that always seemed to be half of the fun of it. But sometimes it's hard to think of anything good. Or not silly. And having to think of 100+ nicknames...I really can't blame you. I just grab my 6 and go for it, so I don't need to think of very many nicknames. And it tends to be the same 6 mons, so even less thinking is required. The Jonster wrote:You know what, this is not that bad at all. The nicknaming doesn't bother me too much cuz I wasn't one of those people who nickname their Pokemon (I know, shocker right?). The consistent struggle with opposing Pokemon is real though, even when I spent time training in other areas I would still have to use multiple seeds due to how annoyingly accurate the enemies are and how much I missed. I do like the story overall, but I see where you're coming from in that it's upcycled from other games (especially the second game, which I could say the entire second half of the story for SPMD mirrors in a sense)![]()
Because I played Colosseum before Gale of Darkness, both Umbreon and Espeon are usually off the table for me. My first pick for my file would be Jolteon! It's always been one of my favorite Eeveelutions.CosmicStrider wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 1:19 amFlareon's a personal choice for me, actually. You see, I have 2 other siblings, Chronic and my bro. We had Yellow, Red and Blue, so we all split up the Eeveelutions. Chronic had Yellow and picked Jolteon, and my brother had Red and picked Vaporeon. And obviously I had Blue and chose Flareon. (Though my Flareon wasn't the gift Eevee, it was a secondary unnamable Eevee with no visible name that glitched into my PC. But hey, I got to keep an Eevee and have a Flareon too! Too bad I didn't realize my game's battery was leaking/melting.)The Jonster wrote: These days, Flareon would be tied with Vaporeon for my 2nd pick of Eeveelution in that game. Overall I'd say Flareon would hover around 4th-6th on my list along with Umbreon and Vaporeon.
So in Gale, is Jolteon your top pick? Or Espeon maybe?
Come to think of it, I haven't completed Spirit Tracks 100%...Because I beat the last boss and uh, let it sit some more.CosmicStrider wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 1:19 am That's interesting! I don't usually delete a file, since even though my memory is swiss-cheese half the time, I can remember some things crystal clear. So it's really like my memory is selective...But I can usually remember what I was doing via my progress or items, or if the game has a "Hey! Do this thing!" NPC or menu thing. It's really rare I delete any data or sell games. Selling games only happens if it's a triple agreement between my siblings and I.The Jonster wrote: Oh i do this with games very often. Nothing wrong with emulation, if the game's super old. Though I have a bit too many randomized Explorers Of Sky runs, but they're a lotta fun! I use Sky Temple Randomizer to gen runs. Never a dull moment in those. But I have kept them sitting around for a while. It's gonna be another rainy day, maybe I could pick one up and mess around with it.The Jonster wrote: I tend to make several files (I use emulation) and then create a different team each time, so I dont' really have a personal starter team for any of the PMD games. Darn! I wish my memory was that good, then I wouldn't have to keep restarting all the time (and trust, me I've had a ton of those in multiple games)CosmicStrider wrote: Wed Jun 11, 2025 12:14 pmI don't usually delete a file, since even though my memory is swiss-cheese half the time, I can remember some things crystal clear. Oh that I wasn't aware of. Sweetness! But wait where is poor Flareon in these two games??? Yeah, that's kinda beta stuff. With a But that's another reason why I picked Flareon, since it was kinda...Left out? My big reason why is because it was the eeveelution I picked in Pokémon Blue. That's a for-life kinda choice for me. And I really couldn't see myself using any of the other choices. Oof, I feel that. Had a brat up the street steal my Mystery Dungeon Blue when I was a kid. They wiped my save file too, which sucked royally as I'd just recruited Groudon, so I'd just gotten all the legendary mons.Steo wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:44 am I really want to play Pokémon again soon. You were lucky they were nice enough to get you another copy. I remember I actually had a copy of Diablo on PS1 that my friend owned, and my parents told me to keep it since he lost my game. That ended in well, us not getting along as much as we once did, and his parents never letting me in his house again for "stealing from them". Even when I was like 5 years older, his mother still apparently pulled him to one side and said "why is he here". It all happened as if he didn't lose my game? That didn't make sense at all, you'd think they would say "find the game or you're grounded" and then buy me a new copy or something. That would be what sensible parents would do.CosmicStrider wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 1:51 am Oof, I feel that. Had a brat up the street steal my Mystery Dungeon Blue when I was a kid. So yeah, I'm glad the whole thing of kids coming over to our house to play is long over. It's really nice to not have to worry about thieving brats stealing stuff.![]()
If anything I oughta get back to training on Fire Red soon. I'm just a really lazy trainer nowadays.![]()
Me neither, actually. I still haven't bothered to finish Shield or Violet, mainly because I had to borrow my sister's Sword and Scarlet to transfer Pokemon between those versions. Catching every Pokemon in a gen is a nice goal to have. It's much easier these days than trying to get every Pokemon in existence, which these days is pretty much impossible. Makes me wonder, when's the last time they used that ol' slogan of "Gotta Catch Them All!"Steo wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:44 am I really want to play Pokémon again soon. Ohhhh, all legendary mons? I wonder if you got all mythical ones too? I have an actual Mystery Dungeon Blue that I haven't started but from my own experience with certain dungeons, I'll probably not get those for awhile...unless I ask for help in the Discord group i'm a part of but never speak in (I mean i could use my emulators to save me for real, but then where's the fun in that?). I'm glad that Time/Darkness/Sky only relegated special items to these kinds of dungeons instead of special Pokemon. I tend to try to walk into places overprepared and overleveled all the time so I would suck horribly at most dungeons with restrictions.CosmicStrider wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 1:51 am Oof, I feel that. You're right, I was lucky they were nice enough to get me a second copy. I gave it to Chronic since I'd basically already completed it.Steo wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 3:01 am You were lucky they were nice enough to get you another copy. Anyway, it's a little funny to think of the time he had Pokémon Red, before this all happened. I started removing and reinserting the game when the Game Boy was on (I was like 8 iirc). I was laughing about how it kept making the Game Boy restart and do weird things. I told him what I was doing, and he said "don't do that, I lost my save before over that". So I let it boot to the menu and seen that it just said "NEW GAME". I kind of tried to say nothing and smile awkwardly as I handed him the Game Boy. He screamed my first name extremely loudly when he seen that there was no save.
It's even funnier now that he lost my game though.![]()
