Sonic and Snake were both locked characters in Brawl, yet were still heavily advertised and also showed up on the back of Brawl's box art.
A lot of people reckon the same will be true for third parties again, actually (though I want Sonic to at least be a starter, personally).
Again, I think he's just a trophy at this point, unless he makes it as DLC. There's really no reason why he wouldn't be on the back of the box if he was playable.
Good point. I don't think it was a box art, though.. it was something like a download version advertisement. But it's just sooo weird and random how there's Rayman trophy, the only 3rd party trophy that's been revealed, they got the licensing/rights and everything just to have that ....gawd, I don't know how to put it in english... "one black sheep in the middle of all the white" if that makes sense... maybe we're getting an Origins/Rabbids related assist trophy...? There must be a reason his trophy is just randomly there and revealed already.

It's a retail card, basically an advertisement, but they use the box art for those things in Japan.
Also, scans from an issue of Nintendo Dream surfaced, and the Rayman trophy is featured in the trophy section specifically, so I think that's as conclusive as we're gonna get. It uses that second version of the trophy too, so maybe it's the final version:
Is anyone else here extremely confused as to how Snake made it into Brawl? He's barely even a Nintendo character, he did have a game on Gamecube and a 3DS game, but still. Personally I'd rather see Snake return then Sonic though, he was such a badass. Seeing both him and Rayman would be awesome ;_;

Wasn't it something to do with a personal request Sakurai got from MGS' creator?

I'm pretty sure Kojima said Snake is still available if Sakurai wants him.
But I fear because of the lack of MGS games on Nintendo consoles Sakurai doesn't care anymore. Though Snake returning would make sense since he had a 3DS game.

Snake was put into Brawl because Kojima "literally begged" Sakurai to put him into Melee, but couldn't because Melee was too late into development. The idea came up again when Brawl was being made though, and Sakurai made a pretty big push to get him in the game (apparently, many of the higher ups at Nintendo were against it).
Sonic was also considered for Melee. According to Yuji Naka, he was talking to Sakurai about the idea. It was close, but there were too many time constraints.
It was also revealed that Pac-Man was almost in Brawl. He's Miyamoto's favourite video game character, so Sakurai wanted him in the game due to the ideas Miyamoto would put out for him.
And when Brawl was being developed, Sakurai said he wanted a Capcom character, which was probably always Mega Man.
It's theorised that getting Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man into one game was possibly a pipe dream Sakurai wanted to fulfill since the series' inception.

Oh mahn that sucks... and Sakurai held out the information about Ridley after giving that tease for a year... and now it's leaning towards him being not playable... like I said before (don't remember which forum) after people being able to use hundreds of awesome modifications in Brawl (+Project M), Sakurai should've already caught up with fans expectations. This is going to be even bigger disappointment than Brawl. K Rool, Krystal, Ridley, Midna and a few others, there aren't that many characters that stand out as being extremely wanted by fans, so Sakurai should just add them all in and not take anything out, so that most people would be happy with the game.

I actually think this is the best Smash roster yet. Far from disappointing.
Characters like Ridley and K.Rool, and even Midna (as much as I like her), are the sort of characters that people had no reason to get their hopes up for. Nintendo seems to have forgotten K.Rool exists, Midna was a one time Zelda main character that likely won't show up in Zelda again (sans Hyrule Warriors), and Sakurai has already spoken about how he had considered Ridley but had thought him to be too much of a challenge to implement into the games in the past and implied it'd take more work than it's worth to make him playable, and hence, made him a boss in Brawl...twice.
Besides, Ridley and K.Rool are less requested than people realise, it's just a very vocal minority more than it is a mass amount of people. In the end, characters like Little Mac, Palutena, Rosalina, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer are way more eye catching and recognisable to the general public. Not to mention Mega Man and Pac-Man.

Wii Fit Trainer... Pac-Man... Villager... a clone... a ninja Pokemon... I am disappoint...
Just bring us Rayman as DLC and everything's ok.

What the fuck? Those are great characters! Except for the clone and I think you're talking about Fire Emblem, which I don't really care for.

But, Rayman is going to be playable?
I'm sorry, i'm kinda lazy to look all the pages of the topic

We have no solid evidence that he is or isn't.

Neither a 3DS

Well if we're to be playable, he would be added to both 3DS and Wii U rosters.

Compared to Rayman? Ridley? Krystal? Lolno, just goofy gimmics, not the best choises for a fighting game. And a cheesy unoriginal ninjafrog. Just no.

Don't care for Ridley since he be better as a stage boss. And Kyrstal? From that mediocre Star Fox game? Check no to that. I'm glad we have the roster as of now.

I haven't finished Adventures because I didn't like it too much, but in Star Fox Assault, Krystal wasn't a very likable character. Seemed like she was there to be an object and nothing else. She doesn't seem well received (for the right reasons) either.
And Ridley is just popular among a vocal minority. And while I don't know much about him, I don't understand what's so special about him as a character, and he doesn't do anything for me at first glance.
I'd also like Rayman a lot, but prior to his trophy reveal, I had no reason to believe he could show up.
I still wanted Rosalina more than him though.

I think Krystal would be a great fighter, even if she wasn't the greatest Star Fox character. The staff, the magic, it would literally be perfect. She's my second vote behind Rayman.

Rayman would be an amazing addition to the roster, since he'd fit right in with all the other platformer protagonists (Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Donkey Kong, Kirby, sometimes Pac-Man). My biggest pipe dream is for Crash Bandicoot to be included in some form, though I'd still rather have Rayman.

No vore please.
Slippy and Peppy would be better.
