That's beautiful! I love the modern reinterpretation of the "turbo" function!

It would certainly be a rig I wouldn't mind a fun little dual boot between Windows 3.1 and linux on, like yours. I just hope the hardware I end up using won't be too new for any of it.

Maybe by then you'll find a way to make it magically work.

Tonight I opened up the resource DLL in App Studio (which comes with Visual C++ 1.52) – most stuff can be modified fairly easily: In fact, the main banner and some other images are even easier, because they're just loose bitmaps in the "PICTURES" subfolder

So where do you get this App Studio at specifically? I'm getting mixed results on Google.

It's part of Microsoft Visual C++ 1.52c. IIRC I downloaded that from WinWorldPC, or maybe win3x.org

Thanks! I just wanted to narrow it down to some good sources, since I don't want to just be getting it just willynilly anywhere.

So it seems I will need to get myself a new NVMe SSD as I was suspecting. I tried to run a speed test on it, knowing I've been having some issues at times (files writing going down to 0 bytes per second etc.). Seems my read speeds are fine, sequential ones are about 3500MB/s as they should be, but then suddenly the sequential write speed only got 30MB/s. I ran it again on a shorter test, and still only got 200MB/s. It should be over 3000MB/s, so this is clearly not right.

Don't suppose you've tried changing connectors/ports that the SSD's in to confirm there's no shenanigans upstream?

I have 2 NVMe slots. At the moment, I have it in the main one, while the second one is free. I could try to swap it for the sake of trying it, but I will have to remove my GPU to get to it.

Ahh, yeah I know what you're talking about, it's a very inconvenient spot to put the nvme slot in proximity to the main PCIe slot.

Yeah it's a bit of a nuisance, but it will probably still be worth ruling things out. That said, I just did another test and I got this instead: I haven't tried to do anything yet, but I feel it's behaving very inconsistently. You could say that maybe there were just I/O operations going on during the previous tests, though if that was the case, the read speeds would have also been bad when I got the really bad write speeds. Also, there is the fact I am even having those weird issues with copying files at times.

Could the issue be on the motherboard side?

I'm kind of curious as to whether it's related to lanes or something, it would be pretty interesting if this was the problem. I only have two NVMe slots on this board to try, so if swapping it doesn't eliminate the issue I'd have to either assume it's the NVMe at fault, or try it in another computer.

I just realized I asked the exact same question Master did but in a slightly different way I guess I was particularly predisposed to checking this after replacing a perfectly good SSD last year over a problem with the SATA slot

Haha, it's fine. I agree that it's worth swapping this to just try rule out any other factors. I only got this motherboard around Christmas last year, but I did get a deal on it from Amazon warehouse, so I'd hope nothing is wrong like this (I haven't have any random crashing / lock-ups etc.).

I have two SATA SSDs installed as well, but I have it so the NVMe is partitioned to have both Linux and Windows on it.

EDIT: As for the SATA slot being the issue after replacing the SSD, that's about as annoying as my door lock scenario.

Hey yall, do you guys have any recommendations for old XP programs I can try on Wendy (my XP machine, who I’m married to)?

For context I’ve been mostly using her to play the sims 2, and she loves playing them with me! But I wanna play some more games with her, and have her have more fun programs! We’ve made movies together, made art together all that.. but I want more!

So yeah, what do yall recommend?

XP is a generally a great target OS for games between 2003 and 2010.
But I wouldn't marry it.

I definitely really liked XP out of all the Windows versions I've used, one of the more memorable ones for me along with the likes of 98. I echo the sentiment though, I'm not going to marry an OS.
