Cough cough Netherlands cough cough. They didn’t even do that much so I find the disqualification pretty stupid tbh

There are almost certainly different motivations for this to have occurred. They haven't released any footage regarding this matter, nor have they elaborated on it in any way. There's a lot of fake news regarding this situation, but one thing that seems to be clear is that this woman didn't accept to be compensated in any way. She just wanted him cancelled and that's it. I think where there is smoke, there is fire.

Yep, a minor offence that likely didn’t even happen.
Also I found it pretty ridiculous that Israel was allowed to participate but not Russia, and I half expected a riot during their performance

Yeah, I like to point out that double standard as well. Suffice to say, I found out only recently that Moroccanoil is actually an Israeli company. Not to get conspiratory but it does explain a few things.

Next year we can make a pool to see who can guess who comes last... Probably more exciting than seeing who wins

Any thoughts on the most popular geopolitical song contest?

Not watching this shithole. Can’t be bothered to support the UK if we’re coming last anyway.

All I know about this event is that Israel came in second.

Yeah, it seems the UK did shitty as expected. I think we should boycott this shithole until things get better.

I can't believe my country applied after last year's fiasco.

You mean the one where the whole entire country was disqualified, leaving millions of Dutch people and general fans of the performance upset, because some worker couldn’t mind their own business?

Yeah pretty much. I'm kinda sure the majority of my country would've preferred we kept out of it.

I was in a birthday and we put it on the TV, we were curious about it. As expected, the "professional jury" votes for their neighbours 9 out of 10 times, and of course, the more grief you give, the more chances you have of winning. How can you take this contest seriously
As for the results, I don't think Spain did really that bad, as well as Switzerland or the UK. 0 public points for both of them is simply ridiculous.
I was surprised by Israel’s second place. Given the statements made by our national broadcaster and the biggest fans of the contest, I expected a different reaction from the public. However, they recieved the maximum points from the people! Maybe there's a silent majority of fans who don't hate Israel, or it's just contrariarism of people who didn't care about the contest since the government, the fans and the broadcaster were against them

Bump!
We haven't heard much about Eurovision around here since Spain announced it wouldn't be participating because of Israel's involvement in the contest, though I think it's easy to pull out when your best shot is 17th place... With the World Cup, they wouldn't have had the guts, people would have torn the president apart if that happened
Maybe it’s just that Spain has always been pretty passionate about the contest, but… Is there really little buzz about Eurovision with less than two months to go, or is that just how it seems here?

Not sure if this is a stupid question or not... But why is Israel in a competition literally named Eurovision?

For many things Israël and Turkey partake in european stuff. Turkey because 0.00698% of their land is actually in Europe and Israël due to lobbying and feeling that they're more acclimated to western values.
Without entering too much into specifics (this isn't the politics thread after all), Israelis are not exactly welcomed in the activities of their neighbouring countries.

Ah, lobbying and religious conflict. My favorite!

Well actually there is a European Broadcasting area that covers a rectangle on the Mercator grid, which includes the continent of Europe, but also includes Israel. That's why Israel's national broadcaster is eligible for membership of the EBU, and hence Eurovision.
