"Oh hi. So, how are you holding up? Because I'M a potato.
Ever since I've been introduced to Portal, GLaDOS has been one of the BEST villains/sidekicks in gaming history. Her cold humor is just the funniest crap ever.

Not sure why people praise Portal to heavens. The games are good, but I fail to see how they're in any way spectacular. Throughout both games you stay in a similar looking area the entire game and solve puzzles which all revolve around the gun, which I don't mind, but it doesn't feel like these are games that someone actually put huge creative effort into in order to create a great presentation... much rather just fun puzzles that managed to get a big fanbase. Story is with no doubt one of the most interesting when it comes to video games, but as usual I like to argue that story is being taken too seriously today, while people seem to almost forget what games should be about. Hate those games where your just running to the next five minute cutscene. Make a fucking movie. Not saying Portal is like that though.

I agree though. I can factually say that I do not like the first Portal, I thought it was one of the most overrated games of all time (and I mean that literally). The puzzles were very meticulous in the first game, and it was far, far, far too short to warrant its full game price
Portal 2 on the other hand was a vast improvement; it has one of the best multiplayer modes in any recent game I've played. A spectacle of a game? No. Sure, it's very unique in concept and gameplay, but I can think of many ways in which it could have been done better. Valve is one of those companies that I think has so many good ideas that can just wrap you up in how wonderful they are, yet in the end it seems like they only put 70% effort in. I can say this for Half-Life 2 as well: Dear God, the introductory level is amazing, and there are scenes here and there that are unbelievably atmospheric and cinematic, but at other times it feels like you're building up to something mind-blowing that will never come.
In fact, that last sentence up there sums up Portal 1 for me. The whole game felt like a strenuous build-up to something great, and then it just ends,

I actually liked Portal 1 better than Portal 2, just because I felt that the isolation, simplicity, and the colder character of GLaDOS went in harmony with the game's general theme, rather than adding a complex storyline onto a very simple concept, which I felt happened in Portal 2. I did enjoy how they added a lot more length to Portal 2, though, since you can easily beat Portal 1 in under three hours.
Maybe I shouldn't have said it was one of the best games ever made, because there are many games that are better than it. However, it is still a great game.

Well, it's your opinion. I think Assassin's Creed II is one of the greatest games of all time, and I know while some will agree with me on it being a great game, there are just as many who would like to murder me for even thinking about it.

I never felt like the first Portal was strong in story. All I knew was that there was something dark going on, but not until the very end am I told anything to put together some sort of story. And once the end has happened, what do you know, really? You still don't know anything about how you got there, what the place is, what GLaDOS's intentions were, or what the whole point of the game even is. I am 100% for telling story through gameplay instead of cutscenes, but there was little to nothing to allow me to be told a story, thus making me hugely prefer Half-Life.
And on the matter of opinion, good point you made there. I seem to have people taking up contact with bounty hunters whenever I mention that I think Half-Life is much better than its sequel.

Portal 2 is a massive improvement from the first game. I disliked the shallowness in the first one: the first time I finished it, it was in a matter of few hours.

I fully agree with you. Also, the storyline in the first one was very, no offense, BLAND. But the second? Graphics looks AMAZING, the storyline is amazing, overall it's just better than the first. That just goes to show, at least SOME companies put actual effort into making sequels.
