Mmmm, I feel like drawing out some concepts for a Rayman Arena 2. Nothing too serious, just some sketches to give an idea on what I would like in a sequel.

I don't think many visit this thread that often. You will have better luck asking in Skype group. I think SpyroGuy is usually avalible.

Usually I am, but right now, not really. We've just moved to the other side of town and it took 3 weeks to get 70% of the stuff up n' runnin'.
The "big" PC that I'm using regularly was only set up today. Before today I was using my ancient high school laptop which could barely even sustain a 720p youtube video, lel. Though my PC is set up finally I'm still looking forward to some pretty busy days/weeks, so I don't think that I'll be able to play that much nowadays.

But of course if I happen to have some free time and find someone on Skype in the group, I'll ask around for some potential players. :)

Hi all.
I need help for playing Rayman Arena PC in V.S. play over LAN.
I will start the game as SERVER then set player name, session name, and others and got the screen below;

Image

But "Launch" is not active ! Could not proceed next step.

I simply installed Rayman Arena, not using "Hamachi", in this condition how I can start the game as "server" ?

*******************************************
EDIT
Oh, I had to wait for my pal connecting until he is displayed on this panel, then I can "launch" the v.s. game I got it.

You can't. You NEED to have a certain type of third party program installed AND running in the background otherwise it WON'T work.
Evolve is the best solution. It works like a charm after some minor calibrations.

Oh thank you for this.
I installed Evolve and replace gamesdb.xml posted by you, launched it + "gamesdb reload" done.
Then I feel that I must create "Party" activating account with e-mail address.
OK I created "party" and networkdevice installed via internet, and got party windows.
Now then ? ..... Things are complicated.
Could you show the procedure to set EVOLVE as well as Rayman Arena network step by step in the sequential order ?
That will be helpful to me as the beginner of network play.

You don't have to do anything with Rayman Arena itself.
Also, Evolve needs to be installed on both client sides since the game only has a LAN mode which gets "converted" into an online mode by the program.
The game itself doesn't actually have an online mode and it never had, howewer with this program you can play it's LAN mode online with others, but only after you've calibrated the program on both sides which means that you must contact the people you want to play with by yourself.

Thank you for your suggestion, SpyroGuy.

I have a LAN connected and try Rayman Arena LAN play.
In this LAN, I could connected Rayman Arena to other guy in the same LAN, so I got the image how this Rayman Arena connects to other PC running the game and waiting for the server.
Ya, I got you.
So far so good, but I am hesitating to run EVOLVE to make Rayman Arena connect with other PC over internet, using some service host that takes a role of some sort of "private" internet provider even mail address is need to be registered.
I will rather take some other measure making VPN to connect to other PC, maybe SoftEther I used to connect my PC from outside is the very simple way that has no such registration problem with EVOLVE company. SoftEther is for private use only for the people between HUB and clients, no intermediate server needed such as EVOLVE.

So you didn't actually activate the special music mode at all, then?
special music mode? what is that
Oh Romagia asked long time ago, and now I got what it is.
The "music mode" is only available in Multiplayer play. In Multiplayer, the music that you hear in race games is determined by which player was first when they passed the checkpoint. With Special Music Mode turned on, instead of changing the music every time the first player passes the checkpoint, the music changes whenever a new player gets in the lead.
For example, in the race screen not battle one, ESC key shows options including "Music Mode" and selecting it with upper or down-arrow key and ENTER, you can select "Standard" or "Special" with SPACE bar, and ESC key will make it effective getting out from the option.
In "Special" music mode, the background music changes whenever a new player gets in the lead while in "Standard" mode the background music changes only a character passes "the checkpoint".

Code: Select all

Of cause, to get different music according to the character that leads or passes the checkpoint first, both players must select different characters to play "multiplayer" race.

That was not a suggestion as this was literally one of the two ways how we accomplished online play with this game. You can always try Hamachi, as far as I'm aware that can work too in one way or another, but as of me I've always used Evolve to do this and nothing else, notably because it works like a charm after the right calibrations, but if the registration process bothers you that much, ok then, good luck with this other program, I cannot help you with that one. 8)

Spyroguy, I'm sorry if I made you feel bad.
My question on LAN is meaning that how the game make the connection to other PC running it, "Arena", LAN does not need to be "over internet" play. So I tried it in my home network, as reported.

Yes, as you told me, for "over internet play" Evolve has great power, I agree.

Hah! That's great. Henchman 1000's theme for McCree is just too perfect.

Anyway, seems I'm a little late to the party, but...can we just consider the fact that Razorwife exists? Like...where did that come from? Not that I don't like her; her theme music during races is my favorite variation, but...how exactly did that come up in the development process?

"Alright, I think we still can fit in one or two more characters, who's got ideas?"
"Uh, uh...we've got Razorbeard, we've got the two henchmen...RAZORBEARD'S WIFE!!"
"...what?"
"It's, uh, it's Razorbeard's wife, and she's got really big hair and glasses and she carries around a rolling pin, and-"
"I'm sold, get on it!"
"...really?"

"Oh and remember Ly?"
"Yeah sure, we've already rendered her into a few of our game promotional materials, what about her?"
"Drop her completely. I just have the perfect idea for the same character, but with half the height and with a slightly different color pattern."
"...."

I have a theory on that actually. Way I figure it, they probably did start out intending for Ly to be in the game, but when they started trying to implement her, they found that her lanky figure and tall stature made her look...awkward, in a foot race. Next to the other characters at least. So, they tried to redesign her slightly, make her a little shorter, or more compact. In the process they accidentally ended up creating Tily. Realizing the design was far too different from Ly, they came up with the new name, and focused on that. Or perhaps she would've been a bit large for the scaled of the tracks they had that far. Or heck, maybe it just happened working on an update to her design.
