Aye. I got that 'brownie points' wasn't to be taken seriously, but I think what happened is that I got the idea of what you meant with the statement completely wrong.

I guess my post was induced not only by the way you phrased that, but also the behaviour I spotted in some people's posting style when they're trying to be noticed by the moderation team as candidates. Again, I was never deliberately trying to attack you per se, but rather the state of mind I thought you highlighted... maybe that means I was attacking you per se.

I have a feeling that the relevant points I brought to the table in my large-ish post that seek to find a more correct disclosure were largely ignored, but whatever, hm...! Writing practice.

I wasn't ignoring you. Dealing with (deserved) criticism happens internally with me, and over a couple of days. Whenever someone criticises me, at first, I think they're an asshole for a few days. Then, later, I realise they're right and it makes me feel better to acknowledge it. I guess the whole step of self-reflection takes some time to process with me.

But yeah, the whole mentioning cultural differences thing is playing the lazy card, but I must admit that it's with surprising frequency that Americans and I can just not communicate on the same level as I do with other Europeans. It's nothing personal, but we just completely misunderstand each others' intentions about eighty percent of the time, and end up squabbling over what we were in fact agreeing on. I noticed this before my holiday to Canada, too, so it's not just that.

Ah ye, I understand what you mean, since I was like that as well a bit ago. I don't have that reaction anymore though, probably just because I've gotten into so many internet 'arguments/debates' in the past where I'm not always right. The instinct to want to react defensive, even internally, has been worn out for the most part.

Also, it depends really on who's giving me the critique. I can deal with it a lot better when it's coming from my friends (you) than if it were coming from some random person ("you don't know me, you don't know who I am so shut up").
