I wouldn't mind if the mattress wasn't crappy.

Am I the only one who thinks the topic title sounds like a reprimand? "How do you
sleep at night?

"

i was always used to sleeping with a pillow behind me since i had a fear that something would creep up behind me. granted that i can remember going through this nightmare that almost seemed real when i felt something legitimately breathing over me. it felt real, that is the scary part.
Sounds like sleep paralysis, which can indeed be terrifying. About a year ago I had an episode one morning where I felt like a demon was wiggling my ear and making lots of noise.

I hate sleep paralysis, I've had experiences like that a few times.

I never experienced such a thing. I hope I never do.

I kind of wonder if being overtired and stuff causes it, since I have that really terrible sleeping pattern. Still being awake now for example.

I've found that trying to sleep hungry sometimes causes it for me.

That's another thing, but then you're also not really supposed to eat before you sleep, so it's hard to know what to do sometimes.

That's a problem for me since I tend to want to eat before sleeping.

Same, but then that's probably why I often get reflux in the mornings too.

I just realized the episode I mentioned earlier happened exactly a year ago, the morning of iHeckler's last birthday. I remember because we went on a road trip that day.

I still find it amazing how many pillows people use though after the talks we had here on RD, I literally only use 2 under my head for elevation and that's it.

I wish I could be satisfied with just 2 but for some reason I can't. Strangely enough my pillow count has increased from 4 to 7 recently.
Also for some reason I also have a blanket at all times, even during the summer although I don't use it for its intended purposes in hotter months, rather for elevation.

I'm really surprised people use that many, I really only ever had them under my head, and the only time I had anything otherwise was cushions at my feet after I had an ingrown toenail removed since it needed to be elevated. The only time I had them at my feet other than that was when I was sleeping on a sofa.

It's rare for me to sleep soundly in a chair that's not moving for some reason. I imagine some people are more comfortable sleeping in a sofa than a bed.

I have a few times when I stayed at relatives houses, but for the most part, it wasn't that bad.

I have slept for hours on an armchair a couple times, but other times I end up having trouble falling asleep. Now a sofa, that's easier for me to fall asleep on depending on its size.

I surround myself with pillows, (kinda like a nest) lay down in the fetal position with a blanket wrapped around me. All on a twin bed.

In fairness, that sounds like a really good way to sleep, but I think I would be too restless to make that work for me...

I've always had difficulty with going to sleep, im restless too and that whole set up is too force me to stay still and wait for myself to fall asleep. It seems to work because i fall asleep without noticing.
