I could not find any documentation about changing the UI language in Rayman M / Arena after installation, so I wrote it up myself and updated
PCGamingWiki.
To change language post-install, edit
%WINDIR%\Ubisoft\Ubi.ini, and under the
[RaymanM] or
[Rayman Arena] section set
Language= to the desired value.
Rayman M (General European release only) supports English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish.
Rayman Arena installer supports English, French, Spanish only, but the game itself can display the UI also in Italian and German if specified in
Ubi.ini.
Both M and Arena
ignore unrecognized values in the
Language= setting and the game will run in English.
However, Setting Rayman Arena to one of the unsupported languages will crash the game after the intro video. I suppose it means they removed the relevant data from the game files, but forgot to remove the corresponding options in the program.
Finally, it seems that the
localized retail releases (Czech, Hebrew, Hungarian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese) do not support additional languages and ignore the Language= setting. I suppose I could check if the extra languages are still present in the game data, and whether the program can be hacked to display them. Who can point me to a utility for analyzing the game's LVL/PTR files?

What about this
Russian localization we used for the article names on the wiki, by the way? Was it just in some unused files somewhere?

Oh God, that's horrible. Almost like straight out of БЕ3НОГNМ.

Well, surely it must've looked better with the correct font...

I can't believe I didn't notice this before, but apparently at the beginning of this year someone uploaded the Rayman Rush manual to the Internet Archive

This is a completely random ask that stemmed from my brain digging up things from the depths...does anyone know if there's a recording of the music that played on the Rayman M/Arena website. It sounded similar to a portion of Rayman's theme, but not quite.
I've been trying to see if the old internet archive could bring smth up, but alas no dice thus far.

I tried to record it, but the quality of the audio was so bad (it sounded very distorted). If I'm not mistaken it is the same song that plays when you're navigating the menus in the game.

Yeah, I've found the website with the music, but trying to extract it is something that is beyond my competencies. Still cool to see that the site can be gotten to, but looks like it needs to be prodded a bit in order to get to the music file

I just tried using
swftools to extract it but it can't seem to find the stream in the file

Cue me spending most of my Sunday trying to get it out and then realizing I've no time left for anything else I might want to do!

Oh, my bad, I though you were talking about this other website:

I think I tried something similar some time ago with JPEXS and some swf files (with no success). I guess these are the kind of sacrifices that we do for this community

.

I mean, it's literally the exact same game with more content and refined features. If you prefer things being objectively worse, then there's Rayman Rush on the PS1 made specifically for people like you and we did get that one in Europe.

(And sadly I was originally introduced to M through that downgrade when the real game is actually miles better

)
I think I'm more neutral when comparing Rayman M and Rayman Arena. For me there are certain aspects of both games that make them both worthwhile repeat plays to me tbh. Rush though, I think after completing it I don't think I would be that tempted to pick up again.

Or Rayman being French and yet not having a release of the far superior Rayman Arena version of Rayman M in Europe and when there's already a French dub in that specific version of the game... That would be so dumb, right?

(Still mad about this, Ubi

)
This is a little weird though, wonder why only NA got this game? (at least I think it was just America that got this version right)

Possibly because the North American release was almost a full year after the European release. They had time to polish and improve the game.
North-American players back then would possibly be more upset about having the game come to them almost a year later.
At least when it comes to the PC, nothing prevents you from playing Rayman M in North America or Rayman Arena in Europe. I have copies of both.

I don't see much discussion about this game around here. Is it taboo? Do people not like it?
Personally, I had fun with it back in the day, but not too strong a desire to revisit it. Is there anything you guys liked or didn't like about it?

Right here my good fellow:

Though can't blame you for not seeing it, sounds like it's not had much discussion for a while.

Threads merged.
I got back into Rayman M in early Q2 2020 (no prizes for guessing why

) and it's definitely got its charm, but like you said there isn't really much reason to revisit it afterwards.
Also, the game contains Tily, which might be a problem for a few people around here

If there was one thing you could do to make it better, what would it be?

True, I remember single player being fun for the challenge. It's a good thing since many games that have both single/multiplayer only give one side proper attention.
Rayman M2 looks awesome! But I really would hope for some improvements to the gameplay from the original version. I think battle mode has so much potential to be even more fun.

Beloved Rayman community, this is a cry for help!
Is there any way to properly emulate or get a PC copy of the American version of Rayman Arena?
Iv'e been trying for a very long time to play it again to a point I'm getting desperate.
