I saw The Gift last Friday and I actually really, really recommend this one. The trailers for some reason painted this as a kinda generic thriller with predictable plot twists, but this is actually one of my favs from this year. It toys a lot with your view of the characters, unsettles you in some really absurd ways, and keeps this sort of ominous mood going on which it uses a lot to trick the audience.
This is what more thrillers/horror movies should aim to be. I've realised that generic horror does nothing for me, it's just forgettable and uncomfortable. But this movie isn't even what I'd consider scary, yet it's been constantly on my mind. It's the same thing like PT, where not much legit "horror" actually happens, it more just lets you build up it up in your own mind and tries to crack any sense of security.

Okay, so yesterday I saw Dragon ball Z: resurrection "F", and it was freaking amazing. the plot stays pretty simple by DBZ standards, and likes to show quick moments of Beerus and Whis being generally funny while the rest of the cast is fighting. I feel like it was a really good mix of comedy and action, although the movie is hard to explain to anybody unfamiliar with the lore.

So my sister's significant other downloaded "Minions" for us to watch last night. And you know what? It's not half bad. It was pretty entertaining and I got a couple laughs from it. I guess the only thing to hate about Minions is that they are used overabundantly, but the movie itself was decent.

I thought it was OK, but significantly less funny than either of the Despicable Me movies. If they leave it like this it's a fine trilogy, but I really hope this doesn't go like Shrek where the extreme marketing kills it and any movies from here on feels forced. They're already a meme.

Well, you're not gonna like the news of Despicable Me 3 being in the works as we speak.

shrek 4 feels coming back
At least the memes will get their reboot along with it. No but really, aside from whether the movies are good or bad, it's overkill. Tesco has an entire corner dedicated to Minion merch, on top the tons of Minion products scattered around the rest of the store.

I don't recall disliking the Minions movie, but I still feel like it was trying to be to many things at once; for example when the minions interrupt a funeral or when the antagonist goes on a kinda out of place rant for the late 60's. Something out of movie that was funny was that the minions at one point speak Yiddish and my friend thought it was Russian, it was at some point when Steve became giant.

I caught up on all the recent action movies coming out so if you're planning to see any of these:
- Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was just as perfect as all the other MI movies
- The Man From U.N.C.L.E was good but actually kinda struck me as a second rate Mission Impossible, unlucky time to release it but still a decent flick
- Hitman: Agent 47 is a big no no and will hurt your brain with its stupid. Promise me you won't even go see this one in a "so bad its good" way because no attitude or low expectations will save you from this one
Also this recent trend of creating fake strong female characters, I really hate it and it's just inexcusably poor writing. Please stop this bullshit where on one hand you write them as independent and equally capable as the male ones, but then have them still be reliant on the males characters, who are often presented as much stronger and the "real" heroes.
Especially in Hitman's case the whole thing felt grossly sexist and not even like a genuine attempt when 20 mins in she's already playing the weak woman who needs male support while the camera makes sure you notice her nipples standing out through her tight shirt.

I thought it was alright, the action scenes were all pretty good and I enjoyed 47's character, as well as 90's. as for the above seen you speak of I don't recall it, but I was pretty tired so I'd imagine I missed it.

Hitman is basically like Spock: A blank page that needs others characters to be drawn into situations where he's forced to act outside of his soulless nature. Unfortunately, he's probably the best written character, with Katia being terribly generic and the villain literally not showing up until the climax, giving him no time at all to be developed into anything.
I'm lax on action movies because we'd be disappointed if there wasn't unrealistic action and popular cliches, but movies like Skyfall & Edge of Tomorrow really go to show how well you can still execute it while also focusing on the humanity and intensity of the situations your creating. Hitman had cool action, but nothing to make it feel meaningful, so it just feels like it's trying to appeal to the entertainment of watching people being violent and coldblooded.

Admittedly, I don't watch to many action films, the last good one I saw was one staring Liam Nieson in Non-stop, so I don't have much to compare to for quality's sake. I haven't seen either skyfall or Edge of tomorrow but I've heard good thinbs about them, so maybe I'll rent them soon.

So you know that Super Mario Bros movie? It's actually pretty enjoyable. I loved it. It's so different from the source material, but that's what makes it unique.
