Okay I don't know much about UE3 - UE4's minimum requirements are, among other things, 8 GB of RAM.

I don't remember when I saw my first iMac, might have been in high school when their music department got some.

Blimey, 8 GB minimum?

It runs on less, but smoothly, yeah.

Or at least, that's the Unreal Editor. I gotta find some more specifics on games made with the editor...

I'd expect the editor to have higher specs, given you'll probably need extra grunt to have that control to create stuff, but I wouldn't expect actual games to need such specs (though I'd imagine it'd vary by game given aesthetics and complexity).

What are Unreal Engine 4's system requirements?
For developing with UE4, we recommend a desktop PC with Windows 7 64-bit or a Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later, 8 GB RAM and a quad-core Intel or AMD processor, and a DX11 compatible video card. UE4 will run on desktops and laptops below these recommendations, but performance may be limited.
I guess that says it all. It may work, but it just depends on the specifics (how well the game is optimised, how much you're underspecced
(-specked? -speced?), etc.).

Hmm, not got a desktop, laptop's got a dual core i7 4510U, not a quad. Got a GT 840M, which does DX11 ok, I think.

I have a quad core i7. :)

You have a top-end MacBook Pro, I'd be concerned if you weren't getting a high spec.

Not really. I have the higher-end late 2012 Mac mini with a 1TB HDD and a 2.3 GHz quad core i7 CPU.

Hmm, 2012. So that'd be a Sandy Bridge, then?

You’re right!

I hate the fact that the memory in the new 2014 mini is soldered to the board.

Ah yes, Apple's been doing that to a lot of their newer products, haven't they? I'm willing to sacrifice some portability if it means I can upgrade components.

I think your processor's gonna end up being the biggest performance killer in that setup.

This conversation has reminded me of something I want to do at some point anyway. I'll be knocking on all your doors when the time comes to performance-test my games on your setups!

Luckily my having self respect means that I don't feel the need to challenge your false assumptions about me.
