You said you are trying to think in which console you should buy?

Well the cheapest alternative is the 4GB Xbox 360 (that I was about to choose) but in the end I decided to go for a PS3.

If I remember well, the Xbox 360's controller isn't much different from the original one, so this might be perhaps the best option for you.

Yeah, I have not been able to make up my mind about consoles yet.

What made you choose PS3 over X-Box 360?

Same reason I chose PS3 over Xbox 360: the cost of the console over time.

While Xbox is cheaper, it asks a monthly fee for going online. While for PS3, all you need to do is plug in a cable.

So in long term, if you want to go online on your games, the PS3 is cheaper.

Due to long-term reasons. I admit when I bought the PS3, it was (nearly) in purpose to play Rayman Origins in high definition graphics but in the beginning I was turned to the Xbox 360 because it was the cheapest alternative: the 4GBs version was costing 200€ at the time, while the PS3 was at 300€ (the 160GBs version).

But after I was thinking twice, and I decided to "study" both consoles while having in account my interests:

Pros of Xbox 360:

- Cheapest console if I decided to go with the 4GB version, and this amount of space would be more than enough for my initial needs
- It is relatively small
- I could try out Raving Rabbids: Alive and Kicking with the Kinect accessory

Cons of Xbox 360:

- The hard drive upgrade to 250Gbs costs 100€ in most places (although I've seen for around 70/80 in online shops, or even more than 100€) and you can only use the model for the Xbox 360, not just any hard drive. This would end up to be more expensive if I bought in the beginning the 250GBs pack.
- Difficulty to find enough variety in Xbox 360 accessories in the stores of my area. The prices are a bit shocking too.
- Difficulty to find enough variety in Xbox 360 games in the stores of my area. The prices are always around the 60€/70€.
- The Xbox 360's gaming catalogue isn't interesting enough for me. I guess it would be just for 3 games and the Xbox catching up dust after.
- The Kinect is expensive (100€), and buying one just for one game, that even has got body recognition problems in its programming? No thanks.
- The Xbox 360 can't read discs in Blu-Ray format.
- The Xbox 360 has got an historical of overheating problems, causing the red ring of death: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_t ... l_problems
- Playing online games isn't for free, since you need to lay an XBLA subscription.

Pros of PS3:

- The PS3's cheaper model has got a very nice amount of hard drive space: 160GBs.
- The PS3's slim version has got many improvements when compared to earlier models.
- Navigating in PSN and playing online is for free.
- The PS3 can read many disc formats, including Blu-Ray.
- There are many people who use a PS3.
- There's a good variety of PS3 games in the stores of my area and some have really nice prices.
- There's now a more interesting gaming catalogue in the PS3 than years ago.
- I'm familiarized with the PS3 controller, since it is 95% equal to DualShock2 for PS2.
- You can upgrade the hard drive space with any kind of compatible hard drive model in the PS3.

Cons of PS3:

- It is more expensive than choosing the 4GBs Xbox 360.
- The accessories prices are a joke (60€ for a second controller, really? :boon:)
- When PS3 games are released they often cost 70€

Resuming, I ended up to a conclusion that buying an Xbox 360 for me would get even more expensive in the end than buying a PlayStation 3. I also had in account the fact that at home we only have got one Blu-Ray Reader, one from Samsung that is one of the very first models of the market, and when I wanted to watch Avatar I had to go to Samsung's support website digging up the discontinued model's section and downloading a firmware to upgrade the reader, because the reader was unable to read Avatar. After the firmware upgrade, it took 5 minutes to reach the main menu of the disc. And what's funny is that when I tried out Avatar's disc in the PS3, it took 2 minutes to reach the main menu.

The best thing is that in August 2011, Sony made a price cut: the 160GBs version was costing now 250€, which was a much more tempting price. Months later, the Xbox 360 went down to the 150€ in the 4GBs version, but I was already decided to buy the PS3. I can say I don't regret the decision, I'm happy with it. :D

Again, the decision was based up in my interests and in the long-term value of usage. It is up to you to decide what's the best console for you.

*Sorry for double post*

Check this video:

This show an easy way of get the 3 main combos, but the second one is missed, the idea in the second combo is get the 4 gems, kill the fisrt Hoodstyler, get the Lockjaw and kill the another 2 hoodlums with it for 400 points each (in the combo, obviusly) so the combo would be of 930 points I think.

Thanks Spanex for your suggestion. And thanks Haruka for your detailed list of pros and cons, most of them which were unknown to me. The link was helpful too. I do feel equiped to make an informed choice, which is necessary for me as I live far away from any game shop. I have to order long distance, I can't just give the consoles a try.

There's no doubt from your list that the PS3 is the better machine and the blu-ray option is great. I guess the only thing that attracts me to the X-Box is the controller. But as I don't intend to play for points, I guess I can manage the game with the PS3 controller.

Thanks again for taking your time to write it down, great info :D

The Dualshock 3 controller is actually very comfortable in your hands, despite it's unfriendly looks. All of the buttons are easy to reach and I never had a case of aching hands during gameplay, which is a super plus to me.

I owned an XBox 360 as well as a PS3 for a period of time. The reason being my dad had found a broken XBox 360 which he fixed up and it worked great. This means I can say (In my opinion) that the PS3 is a much better console. I don't know what it is about the interface, but it turns me off quite a bit. You can't have a regular wireless connection without an extra attachment. A problem for me seeing as my PS3 is quite far from the modem. The controller I find is unusual and uneven, resulting in me sometimes pressing the wrong buttons. The thing that turned me off most about the XBox is the fact you have to pay to play online. This is a very big downer for me, as my parents would never spend that much money just for me to play games, and wouldn't let me waste my money either. I have no (young) siblings, my sister being 20 years of age, so I have no-one to play with when friends aren't around. This is my opinion on the PS3 and XBox 360.

Thank you, I'm glad this helped. :) I can confirm I'm not disappointed with my PS3 and I think if I did insist in the Xbox 360 I would end up regretting. One of the reasons are here (it is funny to read until the end and watching the demo videos aswell  ): http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/121/1212707p1.html

Well the Blu-Ray factor isn't a priority to many people who want to buy a console, but I had my own case of the Samsung Reader and I own some Blu-Ray movies that I like to watch them occasionally. If you ever buy the PS3, give me your Sony Entertainment Network account name for I can add you to my friends list. :)

I found the DualShock3 a little more comfortable than the DualShock2, at least I played Rayman Origins without any problems.

My PS3 is connected to the internet via wireless thanks to the routers. I just setup the MAC Address of the console in my home network, did the configurations I had to do in the console and boom, connected. One of the things it surprised me in the console is the giant list of configurations you can do in the PS3, I took perhaps one hour, without exaggerating, to check every option and configure them in my own will.

Mine is connected via cable. It's more stable and faster. Had to spend a few bucks for an extra cable and a router to split the internet though. So it's up to what you prefer and the choice between spending money or taking the extra time to get it done well.

Thanks for your input. It's all been very helpful.

Haruka: The text was quite hilarious as was the demo videos.

I have almost decided to go for the PS3 160 GB with a Dualshock 3 controller. Just one last thing, do you use a hdmi cable to connect with your TV/Monitor?

I want your PSN/SEN account name later! :mryellow:

I use a HDMI cable in my living room television, like this I have 1080p image. I would like to have the PS3 in my bedroom but I won't do it until I have the oportunity to upgrade my bedroom's television, which is still a CRT.

I've been in touch with Ubi for a while about Rayman 3 HD, and unfortunately I wasn't able to do anything about the future ranking, let alone get any information about it. The problem lies in the fact that Ubisoft Shanghai are in charge of the port, where even my contacts do not have direct contacts themselves.
Having to do with two different rankings isn't exactly rejoicing, but since there might be some differences we don't even know about, I'll just wait for the release and see.

Ok so I've finished the second part in TSBTC with 80.000 points, if I can get the Green Gem and finish the level with 96.000 points at least, I'll have finally 800.000 points in Rayman 3 :o

I can't believe how you weren't able to catch the Green Gem, I did the last time I've played that level! And I have a more insignificant score than you. :boon:
