The real reason why Betilla was replaced in Rayman 2 by Ly is because Betilla had to do important stuff hence why she reappeared only later in Rayman Origins.

Ly tripped, fell and subsequently turned into stone from the shock. The statue we see in Rayman 3 is actually her body.
