Yeah it really had its heart in the right place, I was admittedly expecting it to be massively overhyped like The Hobbit but it delivered. It felt like a really classic adventure movie, not too soaked in CGI and overblown effects.

I watched it myself too today also in 3D. Excellent movie.Haruka wrote:I just watched Star Wars VII. It was fantastic, kudos to Disney for the movie. I already had good expectations about it but it went way above in the end. Having watched in 3D is a bonus too. Will get the DVD once it comes out.

Just saw it, and I feel it did a good job of complementing the prequel trilogy just as good as the original! Everyone did an amazing job on the movie, though that final shot was beginning to make me a bit nauseous.

Edward Scissorhands.

1048, I am disappointed, my father told me it was terrifying but I didn't find it that scary, I wasn't even spooked.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
I saw Daddy's Home and it was the kinda bad where it's not so-bad-its-good, but just boring. In a way I almost wished adam sandler was in it.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Minority Report for yesterday.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Been watching a ton of films over the holidays of course, but literally just finished binge-watching Rick and Morty WHICH IS FANTASTIC and currently on season 4 of binge-watching Parks and Rec which is also awesome.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Saw The 5th Wave last night. I haven't read the book so I won't judge that, but this movie was kinda...not ok. I did have a good time with it but there were just so many cliches, plot holes, unrealistically convenient events, etc, to take it seriously. Might be worth watching if it's out on DVD but I wouldn't really bother going out for it.

Just watched Legend.
Tom Hardy's performance is good but the movie in general wasn't really amazing.

Got around to watching the Interview. Man, that was a very funny movie. I would recommend.

I watched Coherence last week, and it was pretty good! Just a bit disappointed when they found out there was more than two universes, as it ruined the intrigue of who's from which house, but that's not what the director had in mind and it was still a very good idea.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Watching the Dudeson's movie, which is essentially Finnish Jackass. This is hilarious
Re: Movies you just recently watched
I went to see The Boy a few days ago. It was a reel of cliches, jumpscares and plot holes, but for some reason it was a guilty pleasure. Maybe because I'm a pussy and was kinda relieved by how bad the attempts at being scary were.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
The more horror films I've watched, the more they're just funny. I think it's just a childhood fear of watching them more than anything. I don't like jumpscares too much, but I'm yet to find a horror film that genuinely scares me. Also, you know you're watching a bad horror film when you're rooting for the monster.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Yesterday I went for a small treat after doing the final evaluation of the semester by going to the cinema to watch Carol.
I was prepared for what the movie would be about as I read Patricia Highsmith's book much before but I was curious in how the story would be adapted to the big screen, especially the theme in cause.
As I read the book I was hoping to see a lot of different scenes in it but in fact a lot of them were cropped in the adaptation and some were adapted (like for example, Therese in the book is a cenographer while in the movie she is a photographer) but the important thing to note here is that the key-scenes of the story are all here as I recognized even though they also suffered adaptations, either to make it easier or to save time in the movie (which is almost 2 hours long). Despite of the many scene cuts I do think the adaptation is very well managed as it keeps loyal to the story of the book.
I can totally understand the 6 Oscar nominations after having watched the movie. For a start, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara really make the whole movie themselves and I agree in the existence of a chemistry as I've heard from many sources, I think their performance was really well made as the movie involved more the body language rather than real chat and I could understand what was going on in the characters' minds just by observing the subtile details of their expressions and manners. I really think both actresses give immersion to the movie itself. The soundtrack is instrumental but full of elegance, there was a scene in particular I felt chills as I think it was beautifully matching what was going on the screen. The cinematography and the cloth design are hands-given in the movie aswell as I felt I was really witnessing the happenings in the middle of the New York's 50s.
In short to say I really enjoyed the movie and I would be happy to see it earning at least one Oscar.
Talking about Oscars, I am looking forward for this year's edition. The Long Animation category seems to be a tough competition as I hear lots of good stuff about Anomalisa. Has any of you seen it already?

I do wanna check out Anomalisa at some point, the artstyle has an odd touch to it.
I saw Kung Fu Panda 3 today. It was alright, I didn't think it was as funny as the other two but it was good enough. I liked the stylised look of everything.
