This Direct was tresh. The 2D Pikmin looks only mildly entertaining and a bit New Island-esque, and the new Mario sports game is giving me mixed signals. I like the idea of finally compiling sports like baseball and tennis into one, but it really just looks like a generic sports game with Mario characters. Oh and a Mario Maker port without online....k then.
At least Star Rush actually looks like it's kinda promising something good. I guess I can't really complain because this was like a sudden bonus sort of Direct, but it felt very low budget and "how do you do fellow kids?"-y

Fuck off, I'm hyped as hell for SMT IV apocalypse.
It was pretty good for JRPG fans too since im excited for DQ7 and 8 as well.

I am questioning though how the 3DS port of MM will work without online...

Streetpass. This version encourages people to go outside with their portable console and get levels from Streetpasses.

Obviously, but I mean in terms of enjoyment. How people will respond to it.

I'm alright with it. Sure, the Wii U has the upper hand when it comes to level sharing but this seems perfect for those who like being on the go. I like this approach and with the Streetpass Plaza upgrading from 10 to a 100 passes, this makes it even better.

That's not really an online feature though, and streetpass is basically useless unless you're living in a big japanian city. I've had two or three passes since I bought the 3DS on launch date. Unless it's somehow tied to technical limitations, I have no idea why they wouldn't just port the game's main feature instead of trying to push such a gimmicky replacement. Maybe I'm misunderstanding it or they're going to add online, but otherwise this seems kinda pointless - share your own creations after potentially weeks of carrying a bulky device around so a single stranger might try it out

Streetpass allowing more than 10 Miis at a time would be super handy while I'm at a convention!

It doesn't though. Only 10 Mii's can be streetpassed at a time. Once you have streetpassed them, you can put them in the queue so you free up space for more, but the game doesn't do this automatically unfortunately.

It seems like Nintendo have gone completely nuclear on fangames, they just took out a significant portion of them. And while they had already taken down download links, they've now hit AM2R's creator with a DMCA, which means AM2R won't get any further updates.

Wait, isn't a DMCA just taking down download links?

Now, if Nintendo would simply pay the devs a shitload of money to buy the game and then port it in order to release it on the eShop, that would be perfectly acceptable.
But that won't happen, now, will it?

I thought so, Ninty already did that just after AM2R came out, but now they've personally emailed the creator with such a notice, and they've now ceased all work on the fangame.

I'd agree for the most part. A lot of the games they announced didn't seem all that appealing to me. Like why would I play Mario maker without the online mode, that's the only reason I use the wii-u version! Mario party and Pikmin look okay, neither really looks like something I'm willing to pay full price for; Woolly World and SMT IV:A may get a purchase out of me though, as well as a few of those amiibo.
And Mario Sports 3ds looks boring as fuck

WAit a minute. Mario Maker on 3ds lacks online? I guess I missed that part. That's an awful idea since I enjoyed the online aspect of the game.

So about when should we be expecting NX stuff? I think we can view this Direct as just something extra until the "real thing" in 2-3 months. An Animal Crossing launch title would be the only cure to my colour splasheritus.

They hinted at a reveal during the Tokyo Game Show. That's in two weeks.

On the quick note of Pikmin on 3DS:
I feel like Nintendo is just shoving out 2D Platformers one after the next and they start losing depth the further they go.Perhaps they're trying to reboot these classics in a new 'modern' way which is fine, but it's getting to the point of being incredibly tedious. The Nintendo exclusive library is just oversaturated with 2D platformers and its getting tiring. I enjoy what little I've got out of my Wii U but this is getting ridiculous, I truly believe this has been a lackluster generation for Nintendo. Fuck, I even think the WII had some more technological achievements than the Wii U did and that is an older console.
I know it sounds maybe a little overly optimistic... but I feel like with the NX, Nintendo might have learned from the mistakes they've made with the Wii U. I, as a huge Nintendo fan, would really like to see a more 'diverse' set of exclusives rather than just 2D platformers. I really think Nintendo has just done everything they possibly could so wrong, ridiculously simplified games, hardly any risks, playing it WAY too safe (Star Fox Zero), and censoring fan made games. Sorry, but as a Nintendo fan I have to say this has been Nintendo's WORST console generation yet.

What the fuck? Kirby has always been 2D.
And Chibi-Robo was never an appealing character. And his first games don't look that fun either.

Air-ride, not only that but they are clearly capable of making a good 2.5D sidescroller at the very least (which is cancelled), they're only re-hashing ideas at this point. It's more so an argument of these games being incredibly simplified and being made too easy.
The point is: Nintendo is clearly lacking in the diversity department with their genre's, not only that but everytime they try to reimagine a franchise it ends up incredibly lackluster.
Bradandez wrote:And Chibi-Robo was never an appealing character. And his first games don't look that fun either.
That doesn't matter. It still proves my point of Nintendo taking a franchise that had a small, but existing fanbase, and just made everyone not interested. A common pattern with them.
