It seems that they're not allowing third party linking now. I'd imagine if you use Photobucket, it might be best to migrate to another image host. I wonder how many historical forum posts have now lost their context because of this?

Photobucket used to just be your run-of-the-mill excruciatingly terrible, and now it just wiped itself off the face of the planet. At least now people will stop using it altogether so I don't have to pull my hair out trying to get direct image links from that shitty site anymore.

Me neither.

It's always a bad idea to rely on third party image hosts when posting images on a forum. Eventually, they either shut down, or the account gets deleted, or the terms of use change. How many posts from ten years back still have their images?

That 512 KB limit we have is a great third-party deterrent indeed.

I wonder if this is only the beginning. Is the whole ad-supported-website business model going to remain viable at all? If people get more security-conscious I can imagine ad-blockers getting a lot more popular, and that sort of kills the whole idea.

I don't know how many folks here use SoundCloud, but it might be best to download anything of interest you have on it. There's rumblings of them tanking in the near future.

Well, SoundCloud also blows dicks. The interface is terrible, and, despite being a dedicated audio platform, audio is encoded at 128 kb/s, compared to YouTube's 156 kb/s. It makes anything sharp and trebly sound like garbage trash. No one should ever upload anything they care about to that site.

Most images posted on the forum are well under this threshold, so that's no excuse.
Not saying that we shouldn't increase that number, though.

It was only 128 kB before the site upgrade, right?

It depends, since pretty much any 720p+ PNG is going to exceed it. I never upload lossy screenshots, so I've never really been able to make use of image attachments.

That's right, it was very low for quite some time.

I was talking about images posted on the forum in general. While most lossless screenshots won't work, the majority of images posted here are still well under 512 kB.

You can be portrayed as Mr. Bean if you participate to the RD interview.
