bush hid the facts ?
Anyway, I'm hearing rumbings about getting rid of Daylight Savings Time by 2021. I'm all for that, but I'm apprehensive about all those embedded systems that'll somehow have to have their timezone data updated…

I find it hard to have an informed opinion on the subject, there's so many contradicting sources when it comes to the benefits and disadvantages of daylight saving time that I'm not sure what to do of it.

I was thinking about it yesterday after reading Plum's post and all I can think of is, in the summer if the clocks don't go forward, it's going to get bright way too early. It will be bright by like 3am on the longer days in the summer. Then if the clocks stayed forward, it would get bright too late on the shorter days in the winter. I kind of don't understand how it would work.

Bright at 3 AM? Sounds like Moscow in June, I was indeed quite surprised!

All I know is that under the current system, there's one Saturday a year where I get one less hour's sleep.

Having another Saturday at the other end with an extra hour's sleep hardly makes up for it.

I don't think I'd have a problem with it being bright at 3am. Is it really any more incongruous than being bright at 10pm?
Also Humch, the phrase is "make of it", not "do of it"!

Well that's true, nobody needs it to be bright at 10pm. The only times it helped me was when I was going fishing a lot and I got to stay out longer because it was still bright
Also yeah, most people that don't have mad sleep patterns like me would be asleep by 3am anyway

I'm not sure what I event meant when I wrote this post, I must've been temporarily impaired.

Well, I don't think the fish care whether it's 9pm or 10pm.

I think that's probably the case indeed!

They don't mind, but I would mind if I cycled into the canal on the way home

Well, the point is that if you stay out until it gets dark, the fish will be doing the same thing whether it gets dark at 9pm or 10pm. The only difference is that you might have started an hour later.

I know what you mean though yeah, I'm just saying that if I stay out until 10 without daylight savings then I won't be able to see on the way home
There's no lights for about a km or 2 on the part of the canal I had to cycle by to get where I was going. I remember the mistake I made of having no lights on my bike and I had to use my phone torch to make my way home

This is very offensive coming from a woman, but thankfully we all know that ain't true as objects are emotionless.

I remember when I was young DST was always exciting because you were allowed to stay up late

Also I think we've only relatively recently managed to make automatically-adjusting-for-DST clocks the norm, I imagine it'd be a bit of a pain in the arse to go back.
