Ah, the good old yearly survey! It's always great to see it!
However, I'm very confused about the current selection for the released fangames... Why does it only include Redemption/ReDesigner, The Dreamer's Boundary...
and the first three Spooky Raymansions?
The first two are fine, but why were those specific three jokey/shitpost games added over other finished fangames like Dark Magician's Reign of Terror, Rayman 4 You or Rayman Garden Plus for example?
Why isn't Return to The Spooky Raymansion (The Spooky Raymansion 4) included then, or even Rayman Bowling 2 and Globox Terror? And if Redemption and ReDesigner are bundled together, why not the Spooky Raymansion quadrilogy?
Regardless, thanks for making the new survey, it's always fun to participate!
(btw, I want to ask many questions to the single person who voted for The Spooky Raymansion 1, which is objectively the worst game of its series hastily thrown together in 2 days for a Halloween joke
)

I don’t like the accusatory tone in your post – it’s not like I excluded those games deliberately!
I must’ve been unfocused on that day, sorry. I’ll be sure to remedy it in next year’s survey.

I’m sure they didn’t mean it like that. Although isn’t it possible to edit the survey to include the games given it’s only been a day since its release? Unless of course, the results people already gave would be erased which I guess wouldn’t be a good thing.

I suppose I could, but I’d rather not risk messing up the results.
it can’t be that big of a deal!

Huh? How does that even sound "accusatory"? I wouldn't have used those smileys or thanked you for the survey if it was meant to be this "negative".
Sorry if you interpreted it that way, but it really wasn't the intention...
That was only meant to be critical feedback and genuine curiosity about the poll's selection. As someone who is well-versed into all of Ryemanni's fangames, I just found that strange that his most jokey and least elaborate ones got so many options for themselves, especially instead of another selection of more serious fanworks (mainly from other creators).
Though I understand if you didn't get to experience more fangames than those (I still haven't played much outside of Ryemanni's creations myself

) or forgot about some of them. I simply fear other people will be confused, especially after the recent Rayman Alive and the launch of Rayfanpedia which gave so much attention to a great variety of fangames.
Anyway, it's not a big deal, just a suggestion to keep in mind for the next survey.

Nah, you can always include it next time if you’re not comfortable doing it. No biggie.

I’m sorry, Mortamon – I must’ve misinterpreted it indeed. Emotion ain’t easy to express through words alone.
I’ll be sure to consider your feedback in next year’s survey, though!

That's alright!

Also, I forget that I don't always fully realize how my own words can sound as a non-English native speaker, so sorry again if it came off as accusatory, I really only wanted to give constructive feedback!

And indeed, emotions can be difficult to grasp through text sometimes... and even more so when you meet verbose
clowns people like me who can write walls of feedback/criticism for anything!
Regardless, it was nice to see fangames get more attention than before in this year's poll, and also the Sparks of Hope DLC/Captain Laserhawk content as it's relevant recent stuff!

Maybe we could optionally add the community's tools (Rayman Control Panel, Better Rayman 3, etc.) in the next one too as I remember finding them in the older polls.
(the 2019/2020 ones if I remember correctly)

The problem is that the survey’s already lengthy/detailed – I’ll try to do something about it next year.

Thanks for organizing this, Fifo. Interesting to see some of the results. I have to say I was surprised at how evenly matched people's opinions are on the difficulty of all the Rayman games (except Rayman 1).
I don't know if this is possible to do with the Google form, but it would be interesting to be able to separate the results according to age range. I think we could make a very interesting statistical analysis with that

It's fascinating to see how much more popular the 3D games are even 8 years onwards now since we started these annual surveys. Granted, they seem to have a much larger share of favourites nowadays (first survey has less than 25% for the 2D games). But it's telling that it takes all three 2D games combined to match the preference to one 3D game.
Makes me wonder how impactful the UbiArt games were in the grand scheme of things?
Also at any mod who notices this, don't y'all normally update the front page when a new survey begins?

We were discussing this
here in the French forums, and found that the love for "classic" main series games is significantly stronger among fans than with wider audiences, as shown by the results of a Reddit poll I had just come across.

Ahh now that is fascinating, I suppose when it comes to popular culture, the UbiArt games would've had far more public reach given how much more pervasive the internet was during their time compared to the classic era. And so while amongst the fanbase we have been aware and had our preferences baked in amongst all games, that exposure and breadth of experience may not be there in outside areas.

Bumping this partially cause that discussion in the Rayman 3 thread made me want to check this, and thus made me realise that the link in the Rayman Forum Index for this thread appears to be broken, so just giving a heads up.
But also, cause I was curious about the results as the year reaches the final quarter. I wanted to see how Rayman 3 and Rayman 2 have compared since we kicked this off all those years ago:
2017 (59 surveyed)
Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 tied
2018 (105 surveyed)
Rayman 2 favourite
2019 (316 surveyed)
Rayman 3 favourite
2020 (136 surveyed)
Rayman 3 favourite
2021 (49 surveyed)
Rayman 2 favourite
2022 (62 surveyed)
Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 tied
2023 (82 surveyed)
Rayman 2 favourite
2024 (Ongoing, 43 surveyed so far)
Rayman 3 favourite
Honestly I thought Rayman 3 was pulling ahead as the years go by (as I was saying in the R3 thread earlier), but I think I might be mistaken. Dunno if it's cause the survey doesn't reach as many people these days or if there is a genuine change of opinion but that's interesting.

I don’t really get why people prefer rayman 2 to other games. It just doesn’t have the fun gameplay, humour of visuals

It's true that the series' origins are in humour and Rayman 2 is a bit of an outlier in that regard. But Rayman 2 is also the most like a classic fairy-tale, the "hero's story". There are parallels you can draw between Rayman 2 and ancient myths from various cultures. These ideas have been repeated over countless generations by word of mouth, reinforcing certain archetypes which are the basis for the psyche.
We didn't stop telling fairy-tales in the modern age. There's a reason films like Star Wars became such a massive phenomenon overnight. But despite having such a simple story, Rayman 2's scope reaches all the way back into our collective past and future. We encounter pagan gods and spiritual creatures which modern fairy-tales have forgotten, though they are still alive in our unconscious. This is the ancient world with its natural beauty and mystical awe, contrasted with the cold and empty metal men (the pirates) who feed off the planet and then move on to another, which is quite literally what we are considering now that saving Earth appears futile.
That's my comprehensive answer

but I do like the other games a lot. They are indeed more expressive and light-hearted. I don't have strong feelings about the gameplay, it's always good, sometimes great. What's your favourite gameplay element?

I definitely agree with rayman 2 having a rich story. But gameplay and visual wise I really think the game is lacking. It has an amazing polish but nothing that really stands out, and no crazy combos and stuff you can perform
