Yes, but your response directly contradicts what he said. He wasn't asking for help or anything. On the contrary, he was complaining about emshomar charging Tings for the intro (which, by the way, is fucking stupid and makes no sense).

I don't see how I'm boasting, it's not like I win a prize for setting up Rayman in DOSBox.
I was excited about the patch but then saw that it wasn't really much different than what I had done before. I'm saying the patch isn't truly the "MegaPatch" until it emulates the performance you can get using the DOSBox. You guys do realize the MegaPatch is using DOSBox executables anyway right? You just get more options with DOSBox if you want to adjust the cycles while playing or get the full screen working, plus if there is lag problems with the intro because the patch does not require you to own a legal copy of the game, maybe it would be best to make a patch tailored for those who do? Especially because people may own copies of their preferred region and get the intro and ending they want to hear instead of being forced to have the UK one. All that involves is swapping out Intro.dat and conclu.dat
OldClassicGamer wrote:DOSBox version cannot fix opening FPS issue. That had to be extra patched
If you mean lag, if you are playing from an actual Rayman CD and make sure you set the CPU cycles to max, the intro will play properly without lag. If you mean playing at the top fps instead of halved, you have to make sure to force a pentium processor so that when starting the game, the loading text will say "pentium detected." I use Dfend now to make my life easier when messing with DOSBox, so it's just a matter of selecting "Pentium slow" as my CPU instead of "auto."

Fine, you're smart. But do you realise other people aren't as smart as you? Oh and btw. by just simply emulating a Pentium processor you will not get true native speed. Some PCs might get the native speed out by default but the majority doesn't. This program isn't made for You only it's intended for those who doesn't give a shit about setting up Dosbox or can't do that well. It is indeed for everybody, not only for you!
Nothing against you but you sound selfish btw.

Then you have the same opinion to DLC also because it's almost the same except for I am not asking for money. It's just an intro and nothing that important to the whole game.

Exactly, so why post about how it "isn't good enough for my needs" when for others it may be very useful.
syntheticgerbil wrote:I'm saying the patch isn't truly the "MegaPatch" until it emulates the performance you can get using the DOSBox. You guys do realize the MegaPatch is using DOSBox executables anyway right?
You just contradicted yourself. First you claim that it can't match the performance of DOSBox, then you saying that it is actually using DOSBox anyway. ??
syntheticgerbil wrote:You just get more options with DOSBox if you want to adjust the cycles while playing or get the full screen working
Again, stop contradicting yourself. The patch uses DOSBox and you can do all of those things with the patch by editing the configuration files in C:\Windows\UbiSoft\.
syntheticgerbil wrote:plus if there is lag problems with the intro because the patch does not require you to own a legal copy of the game.
Owning a legal copy of the game isn't going to make the intro lag less. In reality, it would probably make the intro lag more because of disc read speeds.
syntheticgerbil wrote:All that involves is swapping out Intro.dat and conclu.dat
Actually, the audio for the intro is stored on a separate CD track and is not part of intro.dat or conclu.dat.

As it will when you are using the patch. The only reason the CPU cycles aren't set to max is because it caused issues on some PC's, I believe. The patch already uses pentium slow for it's processor, so no problems there.
I can do this for the rest of my life if I want to. You may have problems with the patch, but they are just your problems. Keep it to yourself.

Nah, it'd just load longer but the lag in the intro movie is fixed by that.
Thank you both OCG and RibShark for standing me up.

Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to take sides. Now that I read OCG's comment again, it seems as though I was mistaken. I thought OCG was responding to some problem that sytheticgerbil had (because he didn't read the comment or something, so I misunderstood. Anyways, sorry for the misunderstanding.

If I might interject, Em, seeing as non-members are going to be using the patch as well as members, I don't think it's fair on them to impose that kind of fee to attain the intro they want.

emshomar wrote:Oh and btw. by just simply emulating a Pentium processor you will not get true native speed.
No I know that, I mean emulating the Pentium CPU so that it detects it upon starting the game is what decides whether or not the intro and outro videos will run at full or half frames. The rest is just upping the cycles within DOSBox.
RibShark wrote:You just contradicted yourself. First you claim that it can't match the performance of DOSBox, then you saying that it is actually using DOSBox anyway. ??
Yes, because the patch is set up with a lot of DOSBox settings you can tweaked locked in, as they are executeables made using DOSBox as a base. For instance changing from direct draw, to open gl, to surface are all options you have in DOSBox, but I think the patch is locking you in to either Direct Draw or OpenGL, which might explain why the fullscreen is not working properly for everyone?
RibShark wrote:Again, stop contradicting yourself. The patch uses DOSBox and you can do all of those things with the patch by editing the configuration files in C:\Windows\UbiSoft\.
How is that a contradiction? Download a patch to the tweak the DOSBox settings or just tweak the DOSBox settings without the extra step? That's kind of the cusp of what I'm saying here.
RibShark wrote:Owning a legal copy of the game isn't going to make the intro lag less. In reality, it would probably make the intro lag more because of disc read speeds.
Well, I would have thought that too, but if I understand Emshomar correctly, there is lag because the music files are now stored on the hard drive, causing it to read multiple places at once, which might slow it down seeing as it's emulating a pentium or older processor. I don't know for sure. Or it could just simply be because of the full screen settings seem a bit borked.
RibShark wrote:I can do this for the rest of my life if I want to. You may have problems with the patch, but they are just your problems. Keep it to yourself.

Look, I've already expressed my thoughts. As someone who has played all of these versions of Rayman 1 and messed with DOSBox more than enough them, I am speaking of my problems with this new patch. I see there are others with the same problems and some listed in the FAQ of the first page. If the patch is fine for those who don't know DOSBox, so be it. But that was already made long ago by Pok2 I thought? He/she definitely patched the Mapper.exe and the original Rayman and Designer levels. The only thing I see added to this Megapatch are DOSBox executables for 60 Levels in English plus the config menu which isn't as extensive as some users might need to get Rayman to work correctly on their computer. Sorry if that upsets you all to hear. I'll back out of the thread.

I have only allowed DDraw and Openglnb for reasons: Surface doesn't allow to be stretchted and maintain the aspect and it doesn't accept scaling. Overlay however sucks performance and can't maintain framerate stable. I want the program to be as easy as possible to be used and just tweaking and messing around with DOSBox doesn't seem to be userfriendly don't you think? Rayman is meaned to be played not tweaked around. Pok2's patch worked only in english, didn't had the scaling for sharping the picture, still had little sound glitches and the speed wasn't yet true native.
Oh and DDraw should work for everyone if you have installed the right driver for you graphics card and installed the latest DirectX version.

DDraw worked on all of my test pcs i had. OpenGL however worked not on my own PC but the rest mid-end and older pc worked fine.
There was only one PC that worked with surface only but after updating the graphics driver and installing DirectX it worked then fine as well.

No, but v1.21-R2. Btw, you didn't need to install it on the same folder as GOG's version. Just download the newest version and install it anywhere you want. This software is completely free and independent now. If you bought GoG's version just to install this then I got bad news for you: You wasted your money

It's just that (dumber) guests who want the patch may get confused upon seeing the two links, and think that the v1.21 link may have been deleted.
