I have no shame getting back into some of my older games either, I've been enjoying The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 again lately.
Plus sometimes you can gain some skills with learning how to implement game modes into games like those too. Even if it's as simple as texture edits.
Speaking of games, don't care for Ubisoft's attitude with games, as Spawn Wave brings up here:
I'll never support an all digital future, nor will I support live service games as they've easily have come and gone away and you'll never be able to play some ever again.
One example I am okay with though, is how when Knockout City was shut down, they didn't leave the game completely dead. They provided a means of downloading it and being able to host a server yourself and play with friends still. So like, this is one rare case where at least when an online game service goes bye bye, it can still be enjoyed.
I personally prefer my physical games, you don't have to rely on a service for them, especially is said service is not going to be around anymore.

I feel like the people who say that video games are a waste of time are also simultaneously the same people who scroll on their phones for hours on end. Almost everyone is guilty of that doom-scrolling phenomenon now, but I think it's safe to say video games are a lot more positive and productive way to spend your recreational time.
I guess that's technically an unfair generalization, and yet it rings quite true for me based on the fact that this came from a tweet! I definitely agree that I feel a lot better about myself playing my favourite games (even ones I've played dozens of times before) than scrolling through content on my PC or phone (which I don't do that often but sometimes it just happens…) In fact, I was thinking of saying that even before you posted this so I guess we were thinking along the same lines…

was heavily addicted to being productive and learning things for most of my teen years, to the point that any time I wasn't working on something I felt really anxious.
I think I know that feeling! I think I got that way moreso after my teen years. Especially for the last couple of years I've been filling my leisure time even more than usual with side projects, usually related to some niche interest I have but which could theoretically be very useful for people who share that interest…

Yeah you get it, Plum! If you think about it, depending on the game, you're experiencing a more interactive way of reading a story, and yet reading books isn't frowned upon. Humans love to unlock their imagination through fictional adventures, and I really think games are just an extension of storytelling.

Yep, I 100% agree. Actually I'd say not so long ago kids were criticized for having their noses stuck in books (although relatively few kids did at the time). They were also told it was bad for their eyes which as far as I know isn't actually true (and doesn't really make sense when you think about it).
On another topic, here's a mildly amusing sequence of coincidences: Last night as I was drifting off I got to thinking about how I have a habit of being right about things even when I hope I'm wrong, and once uncannily predicted the time that I would get a last-minute cancellation email for an event due to a storm. Of course I couldn't really entertain the fanciful notion that I had Second Sight or anything like that, so I just chalked it up to cynicism, experience and maybe subconsciously picking up certain cues (not to mention confirmation bias ).
Then this morning, I don't think I remembered this sequence of thoughts, but as I was coming down the stairs I randomly had Yola's song "Faraway Look" in my head, which I hadn't listened to or thought of for a long time. I said to myself "maybe Ciara [the morning radio DJ] will play it this morning". Then as I turned on the radio I thought "heck, maybe she's playing it right now" – but she wasn't. "Ah well." But then, about twenty minutes later, I was in the car, well on my way, and then… Ciara did indeed play "Faraway Look"!
So yeah… Make of that amusing anecdote what you will

Yeah, I’d rather read from paper/eInk than from an LCD/OLED display, it’s definitely more comfortable.

In the all-digital future, I will connect my mind to the cloud and play Counter Strike 3 at 6 trillion teraflops Super RTX with 5 seconds of input delay.

Well I thought the opposite was true and that using electronics at night without any light (such as a cell phone) was bad for your eyes! Anyways I agree with Fifo, I’d prefer to read things from a book than a monitor. Much more comfortable for me in any case.

Most people who feel guilty whenever they touch video games as an adult feel guilty because they associate it with being unproductive, and they feel they spent most of their child/teenhood that way.
I agree that this must be the reason behind those kind of opinions and it's probably what happened to the guy from the original post. Even if it sounds weird, it's difficult to understand that being unproductive is okay. People need to chill and take some time for themselves, and not everyone will enjoy their free time the same way. This guy mentions that he started enjoying sports a lot, but I know plenty of people who really don't like any sport. Does that mean they're wrong? What makes a hobby better than other one?

I have lots of similar experiences! It happened to me plenty of times that I get interested in a certain topic, and that same topic becomes a trend or is being discussed just in the matter of a few days/weeks

If so I am happy for you!
As someone who is in HRT as well I might understand how hard and how long it takes to start

There's no such thing as "bad for your eyes" really in this context. Blindingly bright lights are your only real enemy. Eye strain from something like a bright phone screen in the dark just makes you sore and tired; as soon as it goes away you're good as new, like sore legs from walking up hill.

Yep, that's what I meant earlier when I was talking about how "having your nose stuck in a book" was supposed to be bad for your eyes back before video games were a thing

This question has been in my mind for a while now. How much would a dollar be worth in tomato sauce? How would we differentiate currencies? How would you be able to stop people from just farming tomatoes to get money?
You wouldn't stop them. As the tomato supply would increase relative to the economy's ability to produce goods and services, tomato inflation would ensue, automatically decreasing the incentive for farmers to grow them.

In my case in my room with my main desktop, I have three monitors providing light in the room along with a lamp in the back of the room that I always leave on. So it's never completely dark in there when I'm using my devices. I don't like having the overhead light on when I'm using the computer, but I also don't want it completely dark. So I suppose as long as you balance things out, it should be fine?

4chan leaking stuff, not matter when you read this
I haven't really watched Disney Channel for many years (actually, I have no idea about the content they're broadcasting nowadays). Is there anything about Disney classics or do the leaks only focus on modern content?

I''m pretty sure it's mostly modern stuff, but there's some 2000s era stuff there I think.
