There's absolutely no reason to have that room actually, because there's no reason why they couldn't have placed the checkpoint field in the same scene as everything else. With that in mind, there would probably be no pattern whatsoever as to whether or not they dd it again in other levels.

Still, speculating is fun.
Who knows? There might be some hidden goodies left to find, they did it in Rayman 2.
