Honestly, compared to the majority of Windows laptops, I could be sorely tempted by an ARM based MacBook, from what I've seen they run substantially cooler and far more efficiently. I know there's the whole Windows-on-ARM initiative, so my hope is that we'll see Windows laptops that can perform within similar circumstances, but as it stands it's getting a little tiresome having a noisy portable heater for a computer whenever I'm out and about.

I have been hearing decent things about Framework laptops as well...wonder if they'd ever attempt an ARM based design in the future...I suppose it goes back to whether or not this latest Windows ARM initiative goes anywhere.

Is ARM that tool that lets you emulate other Operating Systems?

Nah, ARM is kinda a catch-all term for a family (or rather Instruction Set Architecture) of CPUs. Plum's probably the best person to explain these sorts of things, this is Plum's domain moreso than mine. But effectively they're a different technology than the CPUs you usually see in PCs, think Intel or AMD (those are x86 based). Macintosh computers recently (say about 5 years ago I think at this point?) moved from Intel (x86) to ARM CPUs, and they've remained pretty performant and competitive. Microsoft have been trying to do the same for a while now, but there's not really been a breakthrough product yet that would imply that the idea has reached a viable state...though they've been pushing hard recently and there are Windows laptops that have ARM CPUs as opposed to AMD/Intel ones.

ARM CPUs tend to be used a lot on embedded devices, think your phone or handheld gaming console. They're also used in a lot of embedded systems, servers...all over the place really.

Yeah I also wake up at around 8am on weekdays. I just envy those who’re up at like 4–6am but that’d probably be pushing it because I go to sleep at around 11pm–12am.

Makes me want to get a new MacBook, my current one (a 2017 MacBook Air)’s aging and struggles under load

I get up around that sometimes. Unfortunately it’s when I need to go *blank*. :oops2:

Waking up at 6 or 7 would be ideal for me tbh.
